Movies are made at 24 frames per second.
Progressive Scan DVD players run 60 frames per second.
3/2 pulldown repeats the first movie frame 3 times, the second 2 times, the third 3 times, the fourth 2 times, and on and on to produce 60 frames per second.
Your BLACK LEVEL (Brightness) is set too high.
Once you get brightness set correctly, you will have to tweak GCUT to get your gray scale straightened out.
Get a Dish HD6000 with the optional 8VSB tuner cartridge. You will need a Dish 500 dish for all the SDTV channels, and a Dish 300 dish for the HDTV channels.
It all depends on how far you are from the transmitter. Most HDTV is in the UHF band. If you are within 30 miles of the transmitter, a simple indoor bowtie antenna will probably get HDTV. The Silver Sensor antenna has gotten good reviews. An antenna that works well for standard TV will also work...
I got the Dish 6000 connected to the telephone line for the first time last night. After enabling Caller ID in the menus, the TV now displays the name when the phone rings. No more running to the Caller ID box when the phone rings to avoid those pesky telephone sales people...
Your Directv receiver will need an oval dish to receive the two satellites. You will get HBOHD this way from directv.
You will need an antenna to receive over the air signals from Charlotte. WBTV, WSOC, etc. will come in OTA.
Even when you receiver is powered off, it is still on inside. Otherwise the remote control would not turn it back on. The only way to really power it off is to unplug it from the wall.
The advantage to turning it off at night is that software upgrades can download when they are available.
The Dish HD6000 would give you high definition capability with the addition of a dish pointing at the 61.5 satellite. By adding the OTA cartridge to the 6000 you can pick up digital over the air broadcasts. The antenna would plug into the OTA cartridge.
I bought the HDTV first because the line doubler improved 480I to 480P.
I bought a progressive scan DVD player next for excellent movie watching.
I bought the HD6000 receiver last for true 1080I HDTV.
