I didn't notice anyone posting this (and a search came up blank), but the New York Times ran a story last week on DePalma and his upcoming Femme Fatale. When discussing Scarface, he had this to say:

Quote:
"The studio asked me if I'd be interested in re-releasing `Scarface' with a new soundtrack, with music added from rappers who wanted to do a soundtrack," Mr. De Palma says, smiling. "I said absolutely not. I had to fight too hard to get the version I made out without an X rating. I'm not changing a frame of it."

This simultaneously confirms the rumor that such a project was considered and debunks the possibility of it happening.

That news is a relief. I hope they're planning on doing a new DVD release though. That first Scarface DVD is atrocious.
