Stunningly beautiful film with a couple of silly passages, but ultimately it is a film about the tenuous coexistence between humans and animals. I suggest this to be a blind buy for anyone who loves animals, frame after frame of perfect visual compositions, a lovely score by Philippe Sarde, and some incredibly well-trained bears.

The bear should have won the Oscar for best performance of the year. And he wasn't even nominated. Absolutely recommended.

Brad here. I seem to remember those two very well-known film critics giving this movie a big thumbs-down back in 1988-1989. In fact they went as far as to say The Bear pretty much "sucked ______".


Of course I'm referring to those two film connoisseurs of cinema:
