I've never been a fan of Tobe Hooper's Invaders from Mars, but some people can't seem to get enough of it.

Fortunately, those folks will be able to own the film on Blu-ray, courtesy of MGM and Scream Factory.

Unfortunately, for those folks, the quality of the new Blu-ray is about on par with my thoughts regarding the film.

Soft gain, soft image, a passable HD transfer, presumably from some point in the past.  Decent color.

My problem is with running scratches on MGM's element, that should have been rejected before even the cheapest telecine.

Beware.

There's no place on Earth to hide from this transfer.

Mr. Harris, what are the chances of the original INVADERS FROM MARS being restored and issued in a quality blu-ray?

I wouldn't presume that it needs restoration.

But who has the original elements? All existing transfers have been from 35mm prints in not great physical shape.

I would imagine Wade Williams--he owns the original IFM.
Or so he says. If he has the elements someone would have to ask the more than obvious question: Why have they never been used? I know he doesn't have the UK ending because I provided that for the laserdisc release.

This man is so exasperating he makes me want to scream. Numerous people, included Bob Furmanek, have tried to reason with him about licensing the titles he holds hostage. But, like you, Bruce, I don't believe he actually holds the legal rights to all of these films, and I would sure love it if someone would make him prove it.

I believe all of the posts following your review are about the original "Invaders from Mars."

Yes, because that is the version most of us are dying to see released on Blu! I'm sure none of us intended to hijack the thread...just kinda happened.
