So I am thinking of picking up BARBARY COAST, the Shatner western.

Has anyone on hereI know it's a one season show but I thought it might feed my western fix after I finished up WILD WILD WEST. Especially since I long ago finished all things MAVERICK.

Just curious. All opinions welcomed!!

I purchased the complete series from Acorn Media and although it is certainly no Wild Wild West, I did like it better than I expected. Lots of comedy, some decent plots, and the inestimable hamhandedness of William Shatner in large doses; all in all, an entertaining diversion.

Shatner is just unbelievably hilarious every time he's affecting a faux accent which is in every episode. I thought his faux Asian in "Naked City" was a riot, but here he tops himself doing it every episode!

It's a fun show. If you think you'll like it from what you know, then you probably will. It isn't as well-made as Wild, Wild West, but that series is a good barometer of whether you will enjoy this kind of thing. Shatner is indeed having a ball and McClure is a good reluctant hero.

McClure was a big improvement over Dennis Cole who has zero presence in the pilot movie. Interesting thing about McClure is that he was a regular in five different TV series (albeit three that only ran one season) and all of them have made it to DVD! (Overland Trail, Checkmate, Virginian, Search, Barbary Coast).

It is good series!! Shatner and Doug McClure work amazing together as part the plots. Shatner is Secret Service guy that has to dress up as part of his job!! McClure is the money guy that has to bail out Shatner!!

FYI - It is too bad that this show did not last very long as it had the potential to be very good!!

I ordered this a few days ago. I haven't seen it since its original run but recall it with cloudy fondness. Looking forward to re-discovering it. I do remember the theme song - funny how some stuff sticks with us over the years.

Hey John, I was too young to remember as a kid. I made my purchases as blind buy as such the show has not disappointed me. I found the Jeff Cable's character is like Captain Kirk meets the wild, wild west!

The good thing about the set it also includes the pilot episode that had Dennis Cole, instead Doug McClure as the Casino Owner.

The episodes are very well scripted including the endings as they always make you laugh with the outcome!
