To my mind, Gone Girl is the best thriller of the year.

Directed by David Fincher, the film is based upon the novel, as well as screenplay by Gillian Flynn.  Two of her earlier novels, Sharp Objects and Dark Places are coming in the future.  One smart lady.

Great film.  Superb performances. Rosamund Pike has an Academy Award nomination for her work as Amy, the errant wife.

Shot by Jeff Cronenweth, with a Red Epic and Leica optics, the Blu-ray shines, and will hopefully make an early appearance in 4k format.

This one should be in every serious Blu-ray library.

Gone Girl is a terrific thriller and I wasn't able to predict the twists and turns.

One question. I thought you had said you weren't giving numerical ratings to digital productions?

I was in the minority on this one. Thought it was a technically tremendous film, from a rather poor script. I wish there was a commentary on the disc...I would've bought it Day One just for that. Fincher's commentaries are among the very best. As it is, I'll wait for a price drop.

I liked Gone Girl but for thriller of the year my choice would be Nightcrawler, better script in my opinion, better central performance from Jake Gyllenhaal, and a mix of satire, black comedy, thriller, and bizarre character study. Gone Girl is beautifully shot and constructed and I think Fincher turned the film into something that is far better than it would have been in other hands. Certainly a film from 2014 not to be missed.

There is a commentary. Nothing else but at least there's that.
Interesting. For some reason, this fact slipped right by me. Will have to pick this up...if more for the commentary than the film itself.

The film does have fantastic sound design, though. Ren Klyce really knows how to bring you into a world, sonically.
