ALGIERS (1938) on DVD {or Blu} (1 Viewer)

Does any HTF member know of a good quality DVD release of this film? I really enjoy the interplay/banter between the members of Boyer's gang as well as the conniving Gene Lockhart who goes to any length to be on the winning side by doing favors for both the gang and the police. I also have a fondness for the French version, PEPE LE MOKO, of which ALGIERS is a less gritty remake and includes much of the the earlier film's exterior footage.


As a public domain title, the US version hasn't fared very well on home video, yet I would find it sublime if Criterion could issue PEPE LE MOKO double-billed with ALGIERS on Blu-ray.


Oh, to see Hedley Lamarr, oops, Hedy Lamarr pursing those voluptuous lips and batting her exotic eyes in HD.

Oh to see Hedy in BD in anything! One of the most gorgeous women to grace the screen.

Unfortunately, no good print of Algiers available for home use.
