Empire is Fox new attempt at mix of a corporate takeover slash musical slash intrigue type show, focused around the ownership of a rap record empire.. We're two episodes in.. it isn't great, but it is a different setup at least.

Well, one thing is for sure, whoever is running the casting on this manages to land some real names to flesh this out. It was good to see Cuba Gooding in even a small role he could fill and pull off well.

The show has some chinks in it's armor, but it is well performed and at least to this point the scripting is better than most of the new dramas out this year. With the right follow through on the story, this could stay interesting.

And, FYI, I will always laugh when a character calls someone 'boo boo kitty'.

The direction of this show is better than most efforts on broadcast TV. The use of cuts, flashbacks and inserts last night as they handled the "White Party" was truly innovative for what you see on regular TV and surprisingly effective.

It's a soap, but in comparison to many on TV it is very well acted.

The ratings for this show just keep on steadily going upwards, an interesting trend considering most shows shed viewers as weeks go by. I guess word-of-mouth in social media is garnering this show some ratings traction in the 18-49 demographic, too.

Well, the production value and cast is really unlike most of what you see on TV. I get that it doesn't resonate everywhere since it is an all black cast in a plot that is a takeoff of shakespeare at points and reminds me a lot of "Dallas" in the music industry. Still, the acting here is superior by far to other music related efforts, including ABC's "Nashville"..

I've watched the most recent episode at least three times, because there is a moment in it - the moment the middle son comes out at a party where the camera work, flashbacks, time lapses and the use of actors is just fantastically well done. The music isn't bad at all in that scene but it is the use of camera cuts, lighting and sets that just blows my mind.. it feels like something you'd see in a solid production film.

Disappointed at all the time I spent on this show.

Great cast, big name artists loaning second rate songs, but someone here said it best.

It's a soap.

No more.
