I can't speak for anyone but myself, but 2014 is probably going to go down as the highpoint of Bd catalog releases. It seems like no matter how much good stuff is released from here on out, it's all gonna be down hill.

These are some of what has been lingering on my most wanted lists since 2006 and not only did they finally make it out, a good 5 of them were absolute showstoppers!

• Oklahoma! (Todd AO version)
• Day The Earth Caught Fire (Region B)
• Inferno 3D (Now available in a Region Free edition!)
• All That Jazz (Criterion!)
• Umbrellas Of Cherbourg-along with the best of the Jacques Demy filmography
• All That Heaven Allows
• The Killers (Original + the Siegal Remake in Region B)
• Curse Of The Werewolf and most of the other Universal Internation Hammers (region B)
• Out Of The Past (one of if not the greatest Noir ever made!)
• The Herzog catalog
• Prime Cut (Region Free Import!)
• The Batman TV Series
• Last Embrace (personal favorite never before on DVD or Bd in R1)

I could go on for pages with all the spectacular Cirterion releases, or the slew of MGM catalog that finally came out or the first stabs at the Universal 50's sci-fi movies. As far as non region A titles- after finally investing in a region free player I would have to say for anyone that considers themselves a movie buff, you simply can't afford to not own one- especially when you can find relatively cheap solutions of all kinds.

So how bout you guys- anyone else feel as strongly about this past year as well? What were your favorites that finally made it out?

Thanks for starting this thread as it's not all doom and gloom regarding classic films on BD.

I'll be back later to list several of my favorite films that made it onto BD this year and are up for preorder in early 2015.

Lots of great titles here, many of which I bought.

The Rodgers and Hammerstein collection was my "showstopper". Unhappily, I fond the newly released titles very wantiing, as I have posted. Oklahoma! even has its problems.

best statement I can make it 2014 was amazing for releases, and I have way , and I mean way to many released to list, but along with all the great films, it was also a great year for Classic TV on BD as well

Batman
Avengers
Twin Peaks
Star Trek: TNG
Little House
Honeymooners
I Love Lucy
Andy Griffith Show
Sherlock Holmes Complete Granada Series
Vol 1 Miss Marple

this year rocked, waiting to see what 2015 has in store! :D

The thing about my list is that it doesn't encompass every classic title I bought on BD, but it lists many of my favorite classic films. IMO, 2014 was one of the best years for classic film buffs as it pertains to such films being released on Blu-ray.

This has been a phenominal cataog title year for BD, a great big "Nya nya, told ya so!" to all those uninformed speculators who assured us catalog on BD was dying. On the contrary, it's better each year. 2015 looks like it will be better than this year. I probably added nearly one hundred films to my collection directly from my most-wanted list (largely but not exclusively due to Kino, Shout!, Twilight Time and Criterion), including most of those mentioned above. But some of the studios are starting to perk up a bit on their own as well, including Warner Bros. and (gasp!) Universal.

(D'oh! Can't edit my earlier '14 list, but consider it amended.)

I'm also finding my list consisting mostly of TT/Shout/Kino--who are still working on film restoration just to preserve the "dying" disk format, and selling huge amounts in the process--and Warner, Universal and Disney, who are just now getting "down to" their "unwanted" back-catalog. Makes a nice change to have titles I'm waiting for. :)

Meanwhile, the "Everything's digital!" myths seem to have all the earmarks of a home-theater Bubble Economy, complete with unresearched supporters and developers throwing everything into one basket and using other promotional press articles to praise it, until somebody realizes nobody really got around to fact-checking why the public is buying it, before it's too late.
Digital-movie marketing is starting to become the mortgage-derivatives and dot-com-startups of the video industry...

Only one I think made it to region B playable, The Great Race, but no complaints, it's been a great year for catalogue releases.

Catalog's future was looking very dire for a while but, thankfully, that has gone out the window (and then some). My tastes are wide-ranging so this year many of my wishlist titles were realized, including

Duel (Australian release. Fantastic, BTW, in every sense)
The Final Terror (thanks, Shout!)
The Emerald Forest
Breakheart Pass
The Train (awesome film)
On the Beach
Curtains (thought impossible for a time but Synapse pulled through big time!)
Prom Night
The Andromeda Strain (German release)
The 'Burbs (UK)
Shock Waves
Congo
Crocodile Dundee I & II
Ghostbusters II
Cannibal Holocaust
Halloween 6 Producer's Cut within the Halloween Collection ( a holy grail release among horror fans)
Ravenous (flawed release but still noteworthy)
Sorcerer. Thank you, Warner!!
The Mechanic
Lolita (1997)
Running Scared
Thirst (1979) This was a victim of revisionism for featuring a yellow-ish tint but I can overlook it since it's not terribly distracting.
The Blob (1988)
The Legend of Hell House
The Time Machine
Mr. Majestyk

I'm probably forgetting something but overall a banner year.
