Still at work as I just can't go home and don't know if I can ever leave my store.... Dolby Atmos is in the house! After a hard week of begging all of our suppliers to get all of the equipment and software upgrades, BD demo discs and pushing our staff to get two of our showroom demo rooms completely set up we are finally enjoying the amazing Dolby Atmos multidimensional audio in our theater and main showroom. The experience is very enveloping and engaging. One clip is Enrique Iglesias in a music video that has us all dancing and singling along. The rain forest had us all scrambling for umbrellas and rain coats. This is as much fun and serious entertainment that anyone can possibly ask for.Tomorrow is our first public Atmos demo day and we'll be inviting all of our walk in folks to experience the bleeding edge in real immersive movie theater and real life entertainment. http://nebula.wsimg.com/2396c97ed07e81659c5178f9c4ee5c7b?AccessKeyId=4F072EA4F6E7A540D7BA&disposition=0&alloworigin=1Seeing our Marantz SR7009 light up with the words Dolby Atmos gave me a chill. http://nebula.wsimg.com/13c356bc0ba791a837733424c999afa6?AccessKeyId=4F072EA4F6E7A540D7BA&disposition=0&alloworigin=1Enjoy!-Robert

My wife Wendy and I spent about 4 hours in our store's demo theater last night listening to Transformers: Age of Extinction with and without Atmos enabled.

In several scenes Atmos was very active, placing sounds in all the right places, but Atmos' object based sounds were not used extensively throughout the movie. However, overall Atmos improved the movie experience and enjoyment.

Check out our Facebook post and like us if you do.

Note to Hollywood, please give us many more of the great movies that were in the commercial theaters with Atmos on BD along with the new releases!

Robert-
Can you let us know what you are using for your two Atmos demo systems? Any with overhead installed speakers, or are you using Atmos enabled on both?

Adam, we now have three Atmos demos set up.

In our main showroom (left side of the store) we have Pioneer's Elite SC89 with Def Tech BP-8060HD (l/r powered subs built-in) tower speakers with the Atmos enabled tops and Def Tech's CLR3000 center, two DI8R in ceiling heights and two SR8040BP for the rears.

Also in the main showroom (right side of store) we have Denon's AVR-X5200W receiver with Sony's front l/r Hi-Res SSHA1 book shelf, Def Tech's ProCenter 2000 center and two DI8R in ceiling heights and Velodyne's DD18+ sub woofer.

In our store theater we have Marantz's SR7009, plus Marantz's 2-channel power amp MM7025. Speakers are six 8" Andrew Jones Elite (4 heights and 2 as rears) in-ceiling speakers, three large in-wall fronts (TruAudio Big bad boys) and two Def Tech ProCinema 1000 sides pus two Def Tech IW Sub Reference subs w/2-channel Sub 600 amp.

All three perform beautifully and deliver a very compelling Dolby Atmos demo.

Hey Robert so that Marantz 7009 sounds really good? And am I reading this as a 7.2.6 ??? I am looking into this receiver to replace my current Pioneer Elite SC-05 for 4K video switching and Dolby Atmos decoding.

Marantz's SR7009 is my personal favorite receiver for 2014. An abundance of very clean power, excellent design and build quality and loaded with advanced features. Our SR7009 is a 7.2.4 Atmos live demo system.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to stop by and check it out the next time I'm in Scarsdale.

Robert, yes to all of the Smart apps, including Sootifly, but no built-in Wi FI so you need to get an ethernet wire connected from your router and then it's on your WI Fi network.

Rich, we'd love to see you in our showroom!

Well, if there is no way to do wireless with this receiver, I can't use it as I don't have an option to hook it up ethernet wire to my router which is on a second floor of my house.

We fish wires behind walls and up and down floors in all types of homes. I'm not saying it's always easy, but you should be able to do it.

Another option woudl be a power line adaptor.

I haven't had much luck with power line adaptors in my tri-level home as it pertains to my downstairs main HT and the upstairs location of my router.

As to the hard wiring, I've thought about it, but the expense is simply not worth it if I can get equipment with wireless options.

Well I guess it does have built-in Wifi according to their site:

Via the Wi-Fi connection to your home network, the SR7009 opens up a whole world of streaming audio capabilities, letting you listen to any of thousands of internet radio stations. You can also enjoy streaming music from subscription services including SiriusXMTM, Pandora®, and Spotify Connect®.
The SR7009 is also equipped with Apple AirPlay®, so you can stream wirelessly from your iPod touch®, iPhone® and iPad®.
You can also connect the SR7009 directly to your home network via the wired RJ-45 LAN connection option, and there's a convenient front panel USB port for direct connection to your iPod®, iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, and portable USB devices.

Robert,

I'm thinking out loud here, but I'm thinking of easing into a Dolby Atmos setup. My main HT is rather small with my ceiling height low slightly less than 8 feet. Starting off, I'm thinking of a 7.1.2 setup. I don't want to do ceiling speakers. What is your recommendation for the two Dolby Atmos speakers? Or if I go 7.1.4 your recommendation?

I don't personally have a room that has the dimensions of your surround sound room. So I can't speak from a lot of personal experience. I have listened to a complete 5.1.4 Andrew Jones audio system in a similar room to yours and it performed beautifully. The 4 heights performed perfectly making rain and thunder fill the overhead space perfectly. Birds and falling leaves sounds moved around the room in all dimensions making the content real and come alive just like nature would have you feel the environment. Very compelling demo.

One of our Atmos demo room has Definitive Technology's BP-8060ST with the Def Tech's A60 Atmos top firing modules. The entire system uses Pioneer's Elite SC-89 receiver, BP8060ST towers for the fronts, A60s for the front heights, Def Tech Mythos Seven for the front center, a pair of Def Tech DI 8R for the mid heights and a pair of Def Tech SR-8040BP for the back channels. We have 14' ceilings and the room is 28' x 50'. The system sounds great. The Bi-polar speakers fill the room, yet give you pinpoint accuracy on imaging the position of each object.

Our other two demo rooms are set-up with 4 overhead speakers. One is a 5.1.4 and the other is 7.2.4.

Dolby's Atmos demo disc is the best way to be teased on what I expect to experience when more Atmos BDs are released.
