The version we have out in the UK runs almost 109 minutes, i don't think that we have the directors cut.

I too would love to know what version this is, i think around 121/122 minutes should be the longer cut of the film.

On their Facebook page, Scream Factory said that there were "No other details to report (other than this is a blu-ray only release) but extras are in development and will be announced at a later date, along with full specs." My guess is that by Halloween time, they'll have announced the specifics.

In the meantime here is a list of the differences between the theatrical and directors cut of the film.

http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=4974

Pretty sure i saw the directors edition on dvd many years ago, this might be another case of not paying to get the additional footage upgraded and in good enough quality to use for a blu ray, the theatrical has a decent master, it would be a shame that Nightbreed is finally the directors cut but Lord is only theatrical, hopefully that won't be the case but i suspect it will.

Here is a cap comparison between the USA dvd of the unrated cut and the recent UK blu ray release.

I thought Shout was trying to work out a scan for the director's cut? Regardless, this is my favorite Clive Barker movie. Well made and perfectly freaky.

This is one that has always been under my radar....heard about it, read about it, but never have seen it. Is it worth a blind buy?
I remember enjoying it all those years ago on dvd but i would be going in fresh again because it's been so many years since i saw it, i just remember snippets here and there, i'd say if you like Clive Barker and enjoy horror then it's worth a blind buy.

I would just add that i hope Shout don't do automated scratch removal or DNR, i noticed on the Werner Hertzog collection they applied that to Nosferatu and the UK edition looks much better, hopefully that won't be an issue.

Thanks! The "horror noir" vibe I've read about intrigues me.....

Yeah that is one aspect that i found refreshing about the movie.

Here's the thread where i was a little annoyed about Shout's handling of Nosferatu, check the screencaps out, i really hope they do a better job with Lord Of Illusions, the UK one has the film grain retained and looks okay but it's the shorter theatrical cut, i hope they do a better job than on Nosferatu and leave the film grain alone, when it comes to blu ray i want my fine detail. :)

It really is a pretty unique film. I like Lord of Illusions but I think that Scott Bakula is miscast as Harry D'Amour, and there's always been something about the movie that bothers me. I can never quite put my finger on what that something is, so every couple of years I'll rewatch it. Maybe this was the director's intent. ;)

In some respects, it's Clive Barker's most ambitious work as a director (admittedly, not a large sample size there). The movie has a couple of really great set-pieces. Unfortunately, it never really comes together as well as it should and turns kind of cheesy. Scott Bakula is also terribly miscast and never convincing as a hard-boiled New Orleans P.I., which is particularly weird because Barker was over-the-moon about how great he thought Bakula was, and has said that he wrote later novels involving that character with Bakula in mind.

I think Peter Weller would have been great in the role.

Not a bad choice at all.

A few years before this film, Fred Ward played a similar character in a TV movie called Cast a Deadly Spell. He was much better at it than Bakula.
