Tango & Cash uses an older master but there is film grain present, it's not that bad, no additional manipulation, it just is what it is and your laserdisc will have noise and not film grain and trust me when i say the blu ray is better than a laserdisc edition, most if not all laserdics editions came from SD masters which had their own issues to begin with.andySu said:I have Tango & Cash on single bluray with is that DNR I see on lt? It looks too smooth, its okay just needs a better job done of it. Also have it laserdisc that looks gritty, that's how I like it.The Specialist, I'll keep the region 2 DVD, or maybe buy the bluray for add on to sit on the shelf and gather dust. I hardly play The Specialist, but when I do. I play it for days.
I ran this a few times back 1990 and few others in the projection team.FoxyMulder said:Tango & Cash uses an older master but there is film grain present, it's not that bad, no additional manipulation, it just is what it is and your laserdisc will have noise and not film grain and trust me when i say the blu ray is better than a laserdisc edition, most if not all laserdics editions came from SD masters which had their own issues to begin with.
Oh for sure it's far from perfect but what i mean is it uses an older master that has not been overly sharpened or manipulated by digital tools, if it was a Universal release it would have edge enhancement halo's, it would have excessive noise reduction and it would look awful, it looks okay for what it is, which as i say comes from an older master.andySu said:I ran this a few times back 1990 and few others in the projection team.
Good god no the Hollywood clichés. I have a few, Jackie Chan on laserdisc.FoxyMulder said:They copied Jackie Chan's Police Story for that opening scene where Stallone stands in the road and pulls his gun forcing the truck to stop and...........okay i'll stop there, no spoilers from me other than to say it's worth watching for the Russell/Stallone pairing with some funny dialogue between the two of them and Teri Hatcher's dance at the clu
Jackie Chan is great, i remember watching the end of a lot of his Hong Kong shot films and he would always get injured doing his own stunts. No one is talking about The Specialist, to be honest i thought it a little boring, the year that one came out was 1994 and Speed was da bomb while Blown Away was second place for me and The Specialist came in a distant third, what i don't like about it is that it should have been a gritty revenge thriller but ended up looking far too soapy and clean.andySu said:Good god no the Hollywood clichés. The Specialist I can easily get into that wow cool Dolby film mix.FoxyMulder said:Jackie Chan is great, i remember watching the end of a lot of his Hong Kong shot films and he would always get injured doing his own stunts. The laserdisc is created from an SD master, the blu ray is created from an HD master, you can't compare properly because of this, image quality will be more faithful on the blu ray. No contrast boosting on the blu ray, they also don't use prints for blu ray, laserdisc is usually great for sound but always inferior for image quality when compared to a blu ray.andySu said:Tango & Cash laserdisc Warner Bros opening a bit of dirt on the print. This wasn't visible on the bluray that suggests ether clean up or diffrent print or other?
Do you own the laserdisc pressing?Well actual I can compare as I have both discs playing right now.FoxyMulder said:The laserdisc is created from an SD master, the blu ray is created from an HD master, you can't compare properly because of this, image quality will be more faithful on the blu ray.
