MPEG-2 Transfers that could use an Update (1 Viewer)

A worthwhile topic? With a redundant title...unless there are some that are just so good they don't need an update...

Perhaps selfish, but I know I have some MPEG-2 BDs and I have no way to track them down except by loading each disc into the BDP - not gonna happen. Many cover inserts don't mention the encoding method, even now, but especially so back then.

I would like you to mention any you came across or remember, get it off your chest, and maybe it'll help me too. Thanks.

If there's another way to easily find this out besides anecdotally, please point it out.

I did a Google search and came across another forum where these titles get mentioned, some of them have already been updated such as the RoboCop re-mastered from the new 4K film scan release and i'm sure a few others but it's a good starting point.

The most recent one that I bought that I noticed an mpeg2 encode was the 2001 planet of the apes.

And what brought this up for me was the atrocious-looking Battle of Britain, and at a bitrate that would be low even for AVC, never mind MPEG-2 (least the cover insert clearly states the encode).

Surprised Weeds S1 is on there, and I recall it did look crappy, not that any of the subsequent BDs looked that great, but the later seasons spread roughly the same run-time over two BDs, instead of just one with MPEG-2...yuck. No wonder I thought the other movies looked crappy too. The usual studio suspects (the ones who like lossy audio, 25GB discs, MPEG-2 encodes, etc.)...and some releases aren't even that old.

Thanks for the list Malcolm. Actually, it sure explains a lot to me, and makes me a bit angry in some cases that I didn't notice the encode...presume I bought those ones online as I do skip the ones I notice.
