No introduction needed here
1. Steamboat Bill, Jr. - A (My favorite Keaton film. The storm sequence is unbelieveable, non-stop action and it has lots of silly, fun, and romantic moments. One of my favorite film endings)
2. Sherlock, Jr. - A (Keaton's most imaginative artistic statement. Some incredible shots and ideas here.)
3. The General - A-
4. Our Hospitality - A- (Lots of inventive comedy gags here and I love the cute little dog that follows Buster on the railroad)
4. Seven Chances - A- (Another terrific action finale)
5. Convict 13 - A- (My favorite Keaton short is this bit of slapstick in which Buster mistakenly ends up in prison)
6. Neighbors - B+
7. College - B+ (Fun sendup of our obsession with sports)
8. The Battling Butler - B+ (Buster as boxer)
9. Daydreams - B+
10. Go West - B (Buster's Western spoof)
11. The Electric House - B (lots of fun gags with Buster living in a gadget filled house)
12. The Balloonatic - B
13. The Paleface - B-
14. The Scarecrow - B-
15. The Playhouse - B-
16. The Boat - C+
17. The Navigator - C (The one Keaton feature I don't care much for)
18. The Haunted House - C
Own: 1 (need to buy the Sherlock Jr./Our Hospitality disc)
Still need to check out Three Ages, The Cameraman and a number of other films. I may have seen a few more of the shorts and just don't remember them.

Sorry if this isn't the right thread for this but would it be possible to have a list of all the directors treated to a poll so far in this Forum with (possibly) a link to the relevant thread?
Although I haven't done them in a long while, it's a great idea but I'm not that keen on having to go back 5 or 6 pages every time I want to contribute to an "old" poll, not to mention the fact that every time one posts, the page reloads to show only the threads active in the last day!
Also, a general thread of this kind would help one keep abreast of the diverse headers given to the directors in question - great directors, famous directors, more directors...!

Well, this would really be time consuming as there are now 212 threads to be linked to and each link would have to be copied and titled individually.

I usually just do a thread search on the director's name to get one of the older Checklist threads to pop up. Although this doesn't always work. I knew there was a Visconti thread since I'd just done it recently, but searching on Visconti and Luchino Visconti in the thread title didn't pull it up so I had to pull up previous day's threads.

As for the confusion on the names, Jim started out calling it "Great" directors, than switched to "Famous" directors. When I picked it up I switched to "More" directors just to differentiate mine from his. I've tried to otherwise use the same naming conventions as Jim but have had a couple of hiccups.

Perhaps if Jim has a list of his directors he can just copy and paste into a general thread, then I'll add mine at the bottom so it will give you something to search on, but I doubt either of us wants to take the time to set up 200+ links.

Perhaps you should call it "Davantage" directors. :)

Battling Butler (1926)

* - considering my no "blind buy" policy, it may seem strange that I own 10 Buster Keaton films that I don't like (at least not enough to ever watch again). Well, I bought these (there's 3 or more on each dvd) a long time ago, when I would have sworn that I would have liked at least one of them. Finding out otherwise, is part of why I adopted a strict no blind buy policy.
I like Keaton in the abstract, and admire his stunt work tremendously, but I must say that while I'm awed at his films, they don't make me laugh (with the exception of the Damfino joke in The Boat). I do like him in 3 films he appeared in later (In the Good Old Summertime, It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), but as far as silent comedies, Chaplin is far better as a director/writer, although Keaton gets the nod for stuntman (at which Chaplin was no slouch).

What a surprise, I have the exact opposite opinion as george. Keaton is much funnier than Chaplin to me.
