I'm very anxious to get my hands on Brian DePalma's Blow Out. Has anyone had a chance to preview it yet? I'm praying that this will be one of MGM's "good" discs (transfer-wise).

Yes, I'm looking for a technical review myself but haven't seen one yet. I'm surprised this one is priced as much as Dressed to Kill and Carrie, with those two titles having so much more supplementary material in them.

MGM didn't send out Blow Out for review, but I expect someone will pick one up and get a review posted on one of the sites either shortly before, or shortly after street date.

I'm disappointed that Blow Out is only getting a bare bones disc. However, since it's one of my favorite films of the 1980s, I'm thrilled just to see it get released on DVD (provided the anamorphic transfer is decent). I haven't seen this movie in its original aspect ratio in twenty years, so I'm truly excited about picking this one up!

Looking forward to this one as well. My old LD was extremely soft and the colors bled badly. I'm up for this and "Carrie" next week ("Dressed To Kill" may be a renter for me).

Read the review at lightviews.com and was distressed to find that the critic used the word "Oral" instead of "Aural" to discuss the sound. That might work for a porn, but not this film...

And Mark, your sig photo scares me! You look like David Arquette about to go on a murderous rampage! Posted Image

Kenneth, thanks for the links! Now, if only Tuesday could get here a little quicker...

Actually, my understanding was that the reviewer was using "Oral" do describe the captions and subtitles, not the sound. I suppose that the term "Oral" goes along with the website's medical theme.

Hmmm...is it any coincidence that the picture was taken immediately after Warner announced that Willy Wonka was not going to be released widescreen? Decide for yourself. Posted Image

Speaking of Dressed To Kill, I had a chance to get an early copy of that release. You will find my comments here but it has more to do with the film than the actual software itself.

Blow Out is a very cool movie. I don't understand why it didn't do better than it did at the theater. Anyway, glad its finally being released.
For ordinary men, it's a burning, fiery furnace.

Mark, you're absolutely correct about "Oral." I just sort of glanced at the review and made a wrong assumption. D'oh!

I guess this is like DVDVerdict, except with a medical theme.

Blow Out AND Marathon Man next week? A paranoiac's worst nightmare!
