The UK R2 is anamorphic, but cropped to around 1.78:1; it's very soft (the result, I suspect, of simply 'zooming in' to fit the frame) indeed, colours bleed, there's a nasty tear around the 13m 30s mark and some telecine wobble (it nearly jumps off it's sprockets at around 25m 30s).

Horrible, and in dire need of a redo.

I have the Region 1 disc and was thinking of ordering the Region 2 one. What do you suggest?

Don't do it; it's misframed (and not by a minor amount) and so blurry that it's almost rendered unwatchable. Stick with the R1 until (if) something better comes along.

The tragedy is, with the current regime at Sony, I can't see them bothering in the forseeable future.

This film has nothing to do with Sony. Rights are held by M-G-M, with distribution with Fox.
