I actually saw this theatrically back in the early 80s. (1983?) This has always been a sort of guilty pleasure film for me. Some of the dialog is a little cheesy and the acting can be uneven; but I did enjoy the performances of Lewis Collins and Judy Davis. The action sequences, particularly the rescue of Skellan's family and the assault on the Embassy are both really well staged. The cinematography of the Embassy assault in particular stood out with a number of creative shots (including point of view shots that helped with immersion.) Wouldn't mind seeing this one again.

I don't recall much of the actual movie, I just recall it having one of the best cheesy-B-action themes of the entire 80's:
