Starting out as a maker of industrial and social documentaries, Kieslowski would emerge as one of the most popular and best regarded international filmmakers of the last 20 years. His films are strongly grounded in themes of moral and ethical behavior but often examine human and emotional relationships within those contexts.

*1. The Decalogue - A (My memories of a few of these aren't strong enough to give them all individual ratings, my favorites being 5, 6, & 2)
2. Camera Buff - A
3. A Short Film About Love - A
*4. Three Colors: Red - A-
*5. Three Colors: Blue - A-
*6. Concert of Wishes - A- (I was quite taken with this, a short included on one of the Three Colors DVD's, that is an early foray into areas the Decalogue would more fully expand upon - an ethical dilemma with life-changing consequences. I also appreciated the strong visuals)
7. No End - B+
8. A Short Film About Killing - B+
*9. Three Colors: White - B (I go back and forth on this. Though I'm one of the proponents of "anything can happen, it's a movie", I've never been able to get around the implausibilities of this story and it always hurts my enjoyment)
10. The Double Life of Veronique - B (Disappointed in this as I found it a definite notch below the Three Colors films)
11. Night Porter's Point of View - B
12. The Scar - B
13. Talking Heads - B
14. Blind Chance - B-
15. The Tram - C+
*16. The Office - C

Maybe it's just me, but that list seems to be missing a couple of Decalogue films.

In any case I've seen those 10 plus the Double Life of Veronique, which I'd rank below any of the Decalogue films.

I think you're right, but the list is straight off IMDB, I just delete and/or replace some of the non-English titles to make the overall list shorter and less cluttered.

Like George and Brook, "Dekalog" is my favorite of all of Kieslowski works, and my favorite episodes are "Thou Shalt Not Steal" and "A Short Film about Love" (on balance, I think the longer version works a bit better).

And then "Blue, White, Red", and in that order (though I enjoy them all about equally).

I've also seen "Veronique" and two of his earlier Polish films, but not recently enough to warrant an appraisal.

Seen the above, in rough order of preference. "Red" is my absolute favorite, though.

I started watching the first few installments of "The Dekalog" on VHS a few years ago, then quit when I got the DVD boxset. I'm waiting for the moment when I can sit down and start from the beginning again and go through the whole thing.

In my opinion, that's not really necessary. They really are 10 separate films, tied together in only the most tenuous way, and watching them in one long marathon would probably not do justice to the later ones unless you have a lot of stamina.

Thanks, George! ;) I didn't mean literally one long sitdown marathon, but to see them all within a more compact span of time. As the first several were seen years ago, I'd like to start again with a "refresh" viewing on those. . . But, I have so many things waiting to be viewed, it's hard to say when I'll be "in the mood" for these. . .:D

changed my vote for White from 8 to 7. I agree with what Brook said, it's just too implausible to swallow.

The only one I've seen is "Three Colors: White," which I enjoyed very much. I have no idea why I've never seen any more of his work. You'd think I'd at least finish off the "Three Colors" trilogy.
