"Godfather of gore". Purveyor of drive-in nudie flicks and "nature" films. Maker of gang and other teensploitation fare. He's no Jack Hill :D, but his place in the cult canon is secure.

1. Two Thousand Maniacs - A- (Gordon's best and most humorous film, about a Southern town who lures unsuspecting Yanks to their doom as revenge for the Civil War)
2. Blood Feast - B+ (Known as the gore film that started it all. It's certainly gory and amusing on the "no budget" level)
3. Bloodfeast 2: All U Can Eat - B (Gordon translates his "style" to the 21st century in a fairly successful manner. Exceeded by very low expectations)
4. Color Me Blood Red - C (Actually uses a C-list "name" actor or two here, but the story is tired and this one isn't much fun)
5. The Gore Gore Girls - F (Even the presence of Henny Youngman can't enliven this dreadfully boring, exceedingly awful movie about a killer terrorizing the local go-go bar, or something)

I've seen none. Those actually sound interesting. I'm sure they're bad films, but if you have to watch a bad film, much better one that has something you like to look at (naked girls) than something you hate to look at (gore).

I believe it. For the most part, Lewis' production values could definitely be described as Ed Woodesque. Blood Feast 2 is better made, it's more along the lines of any Sundance cheapie.

I think I've seen Blood Feast and The Wizard of Gore. Interested in seeing Two Thousand Maniacs.

This thread cracks me up. What a choice. Turns out, as far as I can tell, I've never seen an H.G. Lewis film, but now that he's in my mind, I want to. Can anyone suggest one that is especially offensive, and with lots of gratuitous nudity? ;)

I would recommend his best films as being Two Thousand Maniacs and Blood Feast but I can't recall either having much, if any, nudity. If you want to go with gratuitous nudity but incredibly inept and boring, than The Gore Gore Girls could be right up your alley. But I concentrated on his horror films and haven't seen his nudies or gang stuff. If Justin S pops in here he could probably give you a more knowledgeable recommendation.

Thanks Brook. I just figure if I am going camping, I might as well camp at Yosemite.

1. Blood Feast-groundbreaking, revolutionary filmmaking...

2. Two Thousand Maniacs!-hilariously sick good time

3. The Wizard Of Gore-not as good as its remake, Bloodsucking Freaks, but decent

4. The Gruesome Twosome

5. The Gore Gore Girls

6. She-Devils On Wheels-***CRAP*** A bunch of unappealing, unattractive women riding around on motorcycles spouting unfunny dialogue with hardly any gore in sight

I've seen TWO THOUSAND MANIACS, BLOOD FEAST, GORE GORE GIRLS and WIZARD OF GORE.

TWO THOUSAND MANIACS is his "best" film, as it's a lot of fun and actually has some type of plotline to it. BLOOD FEAST would be the next, as it's also wild and insane. The other two are purely... well,.... "gore shows" with nothing else.

Two Thousand Maniacs :star: :star: :star:
Blood Feast :star: :star:
Gore Gore Girls :star:
Wizard of Gore :star:

I haven't watched any of Herschell Gordon Lewis' numerous "gorefests", only snippets here and there in trailers and compilations! I've been meaning to pick up some of the Something Weird SE DVDs for the longest time but have always wondered - and sincerely doubt:) - whether his type of film will eventually be to my liking!
