Hi guys,

I want to connect my AMD Radeon HD6450 HDMI port to my AV receiver 7.1 analog multichannel input, (AVR has no HDMI port), to get newest lossless audio formats, Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master.

To do this:

1 option: Get a "HDMI to HDMI 7.1ch Audio Extractor Converter" like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HDMI-to-HDMI...item2c9dc80e5b

2 option: Get a USB external sound card like this

Software decoder is PowerDVD 14.

My question:

Which method works best and deliver the better sound quality?

Thanks for advice

Or you could buy an older Onkyo avr(easiest to find used) such as the 605/606/705.
That sounds good.

Is there any used cheap avr that has optical/coax digital out, so it can pass through the HDMI input material to optical/coax out?

The Onkyo 605/606 do not have 7.1 pre out. I want to use it with my Harman Kardon AVR 7300 7.1 input since it has excellent amp section.

Onkyo 705 has 7.1 pre out but I am not going to use the amp as well.

Are there any cheap used processors that can handle the job?

Occasionally Onkyo prepro show up under $500 from the same era. They were $2000+ new. So no, not really...they are no "cheap HDMI processors".

Unless you found a used Outlaw/Emotiva that was $600 new...and can live with how basic they are.

How about a used NAD T765?

It has HDMI 1.3. The processing, amp section and sound quality are by far superior to Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha.
