Dish subscribers who were paying $10 for the Platinum Pack now have Blockbuster Movie Pass free. In short, the Platinum Pack was renamed Blaockbuster Movie Pass, which now includes 1 DVD (or Blu-Ray or game) out at a time plus streaming, and all the channels that were in the Platinum Pack. . As of now, the streaming is nothing like Netflix, but we hope it gets better soon. In short, I have everything I had before, plus 1 DVD, Blu-Ray or game out at a time for no increase in price! I set up my movie queue on October 1st and received my first DVD today.

Does anybody have any insight into the usability of this? I despise Dish Networks menus and interface for selecting on demand movies, it's clunky, slow, and unintuitive. Does the movie pass have a different menu? As awful as Netflix selection is, they have a great interface on my Logitech Revue w/GoogleTV

UPDATE: Dish Network Launches Blockbuster Movie Pass Streaming Service NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Dish Network Corp. (DISH) on Friday confirmed the launch of a Blockbuster-branded service to stream movies and television programs, a widely expected move it called "the most comprehensive entertainment package ever." Blockbuster Movie Pass was officially announced Friday, but revealed the event date and its title, "A Stream Come True," earlier, so the announcement comes as no surprise. Chief Executive Joe Clayton said Dish's integration of Blockbuster has progressed well over the past six months, and the rollout of the Movie Pass program will begin on Oct. 1. Clayton called the service the first national offer of multichannel video. Now, with one company, one bill and one connection, customers will have the option to rent over 100,000 titles and thousands of video games by mail, and return them to Blockbuster stores if they choose, plus they will be able to stream thousands of movies. By coupling a Dish Network satellite TV package with Blockbuster Movie Pass, customers can add thousands more entertainment programs to their streaming library. Netflix Inc. (NFLX) has more than 20,000 movies and shows available to stream, while Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s (WMT) Vudu service tops 30,000. Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) has over 100,000 options available for pay-per-view streaming, and subscribers to its Prime Service can choose to stream for free over 9,000 titles. Only Dish customers will have access to Blockbuster Movie Pass, for an additional $10 per month on top of what they pay for their existing Dish service. Blockbuster President Michael Kelly told listeners Blockbuster continues to pursue its own streaming initiative but declined to provide a timetable for such a release. Kelly said the struggling Blockbuster brand has grown stronger under Dish stewardship and customer traffic at its stores has more than doubled since Dish purchased its assets out of bankruptcy court. Shares of Dish were up 4.1% at $26.43 in Friday afternoon trading. The stock is up more than 34% this year. Dish bought Blockbuster's assets in April for approximately $320 million, a move then seen driven by ambitions to launch a Dish streaming service. Some observers were skeptical the acquisition made sense unless Dish closed all of Blockbuster's brick-and-mortar outlets, as those would be much more of a cash drain than any streaming service could overcome in the short term. In July, Blockbuster said more than 1,500 of its U.S. video-rental stores would remain open, which was more than initially suspected but below the 1,700 in operation when Dish bought Blockbuster's assets. Dish has a test program at 150 of Blockbuster's more than 1,500 remaining stores where customers can subscribe to Dish services in the store. The announcement Friday puts Dish in competition with Netflix, the market leader in streaming video but one that has suffered some setbacks in recent months. Netflix angered customers with a new pricing plan and splitting its DVD-by-mail and video-streaming businesses. The fallout has forced Netflix to announce that it would likely end its third quarter with a million fewer subscribers than it had expected. In addition, Netflix is poised to lose access in February to programming from Starz, the flagship channel of Liberty Media Corp. (LINTA, LSTZA, LCAPA), as Netflix remains unwilling to meet Starz's monetary demands. Shares of Netflix, which have roughly halved over the past three months due to its missteps, were recently up 1.1% to $130. Netflix is down 26% this year. Netflix told investors in April that it expected Dish "likely to launch a substantial subscription streaming effort under the Blockbuster brand." Before it went bankrupt, Blockbuster made forays into streaming through software embedded in some televisions, digital video recorders and smart phones, but lacked the financial wherewithal and new customers to see those efforts to fruition. -By Maxwell Murphy, Dow Jones Newswires; 212-416-2171; [email protected] Thanks, Michel oil drilling companies

Dish/Blockbuster problems in Dec 2011: I just got Blockbuster through Dish. Dish is just OK but Blockbuster has a long way to go to get things right. Netflix was much better technically. The downloads at Blockbusters takes 7 hours, where it took only 20 minutes maximum at Netflix. The reason? I was told by a Dish broadband tech that Blockbuster only had one server to serve all their customers. He said that Blockbuster has another coming on line sometime in the future but he did not know when. It takes about two months to install and test the server before it is put online. The software program that presents Blockbuster movies is not user-friendly. You have to go from the beginning to get to any movie you want to see. With over 3000 movies, it takes way too long. They need to change the process to the first letter of the movie you want and type in the rest of the title to get to a specific movie title. The "My Rental" page holds the movies you've selected, but I have had trouble deleting movies that I've already seen. They disappear when you delete them, but come back later on. Strange. If you find a movie you want to see and select it, it will ask you if you want to download it now. In the movie info part of the selected movie, it will tell you how long it will take to download it. When you select download now, the time to download will recalculate the download time and display the recalculated time. When it appears to have downloaded completely, the download button changes to "watch it now" or "watch it later." If you pick watch it now, the movie will start but it will be interrupted by displaying a warning that its is buffering (downloading) more of the movie. This happens every three minutes -- and is not good. The good news is that DVDs by mail is just as good as Netflix.

Netflix is streaming. Blockbuster has both streaming and download features. Are you sure you were using the right service on Blockbuter? Netflix instantly starts to play I'm not sure what you mean by downloading on Netflix.
