I've seen RoboCop, Total Recall, Basic Instinct and Starship Troopers at the cinema, more than once in some cases. I'm a huge fan of Verhoeven's gore-drenched sci-fi output. But he seems to have disappeared lately.

Ranking

1)RoboCop (a SF classic, Verhoeven's masterpiece)
2)Total Recall
3)Starship Troopers
4)Basic Instinct
5)Flesh + Blood
6)Hollow Man
7)Showgirls

Jim, Showgirls has plenty of nudity, but the film was awful, see it for the nekkid chicks but it's really crap, I wish he'd stick to sci-fi, maybe a version of Showgirls crossed with Total Recall would have been more my taste.

 Bill I is shocked (again). I really expected your ratings to be the polar opposite of mine, but looks like you're a bigger Verhoeven fan than I since you've also seen and liked some of his early works.

I feel the same way. There was a rumored project a few years ago The Crusades with Ahhhnold a.k.a. the Gov, which I was looking forward to. That seems to be in development Hell. :frowning:

Looks like he's directing a couple of WWII films over the next two years.

Beast of Bataan (2006) (announced)
Zwartboek (2005) (pre-production)

*1. Starship Troopers - A
2. Robocop - B+ (still feel that a poor villian and final showdown mar an otherwise outstanding film)
3. Total Recall - B+
4. Black Book - B+
5. Showgirls - B
6. Soldier Of Orange - B
7. Hollow Man - B-
8. Basic Instinct - B-

Own: 1

Need to rent some more of his Dutch films though I found Soldier of Orange a bit disappointing. Really want to see Flesh+Blood, need to either stick it in my queue or bump it up.

I'd really like to see Keetje Tippel and Turkish Delight, but at $28 a film at Amazon, it's way too expensive for a blind purchase.

I own Soldier of Orange, Total Recall, Robocop and Starship Troopers. It really amazes me that Paul made Soldier of Orange, one of the best war films ever.
