Damaged flat panel glass (1 Viewer)

Ladies and Gentlemen :

My brother-in-law won a flat panel 50" Samsung T.V. in December. His five year old daughter recently threw a hard object at it, resulting in a broken glass screen. I would like opinions on whether he should try to have the screen replaced or replace the T.V.

Everything I have read suggests that unless you have the skills to do it yourself via buying parts on Ebay toss it and buy a new one. Sucks, eh?
