For the first time ever, the global market for LCD TV panels declined in Q3 from Q2. This raises concern given a normally strong period of the year.

WW estimates show a decline in units from 58.8M to 58M according to IHS.

The dip is probably due to the market in China where the government incentive for displays has stopped.

I think the decline is threefold...

Average Joe Schmuck knows 4K is out there.
OLED is on the horizon.
How much of the world(main buying countries only) has yet to buy at least 1?

It is ridiculous for TV manufacturers to think the move to flat panel was going to be "forever sustained". I'm at the extreme end here. I have 13 flat panel in 3 houses. Of those, 11 are plasma. I don't see needing a new TV until one dies. If I go 4k, it will be a projector.

By then...we might have 120" OLED anyway. That will be the only way I buy a "4k TV".

I agree with you except for one thing: "Average Joe Schmuck" does not know 4K is out there.

Oled has been on the horizon for 20 years. The local camera and stereo shop had that 11" demo a decade ago. Is that really scaring people off of new displays?

The driving force of the industry is 42" and bigger.Not the 29" and under "who made it this week?" Wal-Mart special.
