To bad PBS doesn't do things like HBO, which ran a mega-marathon of "Games of Thrones, Episode one to the latest show before the new season starts.

Actually, my PBS station HAS done this with Downton...showing the previous season's episodes the weeks leading up to the premiere of the new season. But with the show over, I guess any chance of that is out the window for you...

It's out there somewhere, I'll find it and do my own binge-marathon session.

Probably do a nice dinner and have friends over for as long as they can stay awake. Guessing it will be several days to get through it all, but I'm going to do it.

I wonder what the author of this thread thinks of the Crawley Family's latest surprise Family addition left by the Lady Dowager, as seen in tonight's PBS Broadcast? ;)

Anyway, another fine episode, albeit one that was touched by tragedy! I really like that Molesley finally gets to move on to Teaching, a vocation that he had longed for, though Thomas' fate still seems a bit up in the air!

Just one more episode before the series finale with one last Downton Christmas, when Lady Rose graces the Abbey with her presence one last time! :)

CHEERS! :)

The lump in my throat when that great reveal was made probably equaled the fictional lump in the Earl of Grantham's throat when he realized what had been done! Not kidding! :D

The scene with the Dowager Countess interrogating that smirky bride-to-be was simply priceless, and one of the highlights of Maggie Smith's season. I played it twice because I enjoyed her so much.

Loved the whole episode.

That was heart breaking when once again Mary screws things up for Edith.

I liked how everyone was ripping Mary a new one finally calling her on her poor behavior, I particularly like the exchange with Edith
It was funny how Edith kept shutting her up by calling her a bitch.

Well one more episode to go. I might have to go out and buy the Blu-Rays so I can watch it now instead of waiting two weeks.
Besides I already have the other seasons so I might as well complete the set.

While I was generally happy with how everything panned out by episodes end, I do have some nitpicks:

While touching, I thought the Lady Dowager's talking of love towards Lady Mary rang a bit untrue to her character.

There seemed to be a bit too much of a leaning toward what life will be like in the future. While some forward thinking is fine, in my opinion, it was a little too thick in last night's episode!

As I find the DVD/Blu-ray sets too expensive for my blood, I resign myself to waiting out the long two weeks to the final Downton Christmas Special. I hope to see Lady Edith ultimately marry, Thomas to finally once again have a steady position (Even if it's his old one at Downton!), for the Bates' blessed event, and of course, the much anticipated last appearance by Lady Rose! :)

CHEERS! :)

Yes, a rough go for Lady Mary, all brought on by her own jealousy and conflicting emotions, and she deserved every tongue lashing she got. The ones by Tom were especially stinging since they have such rapport together. I thought Mary came around too quickly to her realization and forgetting her fears about possible car incidents, and Lady Edith's disappointment didn't fool me for an instant. Julian Fellowes pulled the same trick in season two with Mary seeming to be at the end of the line with Matthew, and then during the Christmas special, the way suddenly cleared for them to be married.

Well, that wraps another memorable series. Fellowes made sure that everyone was either happily joined, tilting in that direction, or, in the case of Thomas, at least back home with a job he's coveted for a long time and so far as Violet the Dowager is concerned, she has Spatt's new-found fame to amuse her.

Well, my viewing experience was sullied by the following, which I've also posted in the "What Annoys You?" Topic:

Please understand as I type this, I do get the vitalness of Amber Alerts for missing and abducted children!

But why does it have to bloody well interrupt the DOWNTON ABBEY series finale? I mean, our pvr is literally shifting repeatedly to a red screen and interrupting my recording at 5 minute intervals!

As it stands, I've now set our pvr for the above episode's back to back airings, but I have no idea how long these amber alerts are going to continue!

The really annoying aspect is, how much assistance can somebody who's sitting at home watching TV be regarding these amber alerts, anyway? I mean come on, common sense, people!

SHEESH! :P

EDIT: Here is the posted child abduction on the CRTC page:https://www.reddit.com/r/canada/comments/49am6c/emergency_alert_child_abducted_in_orillia/

Apparently, this is a service that is now mandatory for most Canadian Cable and Satellite providers, and when it gets implemented is beyond their control.

Again, I DO understand the vitalness of amber alerts, but I still fail to get how interrupting programming is really of any help?

Perhaps, I need some enlightening on the subject?

Sorry to have marred this topic with my ranting, but damn it, I was really looking forward to this! What's even worse, is it messed up the return of Lady Rose--That is just unforgivable!! :(

I was finally able to catch the last ½ hour uninterrupted from the PBS encore broadcast. For once, I was extremely thankful for this redundancy!

Some time ago, I determined that the cost of the sets in Canada are simply beyond my price range, though I'd certainly recommend this series, quality wise! Therefore, TV viewing is my only option, in this case.

In my opinion, the story-lines were wrapped up beautifully, with just enough left over if the potential movie gets realized, but not so much that an unrealized cinematic project will leave too many holes!

I loved seeing Amelia get put in her place, and Miss Denker's attempt to discredit Spratt literally laughed off by the Lady Dowager! Two priceless moments in a final episode chock full of them!

Oh, and of course, there was also the return of Lady Rose! ;)

CHEERS! :)

Bravo to Julian Fellowes for happy endings. Goodness knows we need them somewhere.
Yeah, the characters and the show deserved a happy ending and I'm glad to see that basically everyone got one.

I'm not really sure how to really say it but one thing I loved about this series (and period pieces in general) is how I can better relate to it when I can visualize someone I know having been alive at that time. Mary and Edith's kids were about the same age as my grandparents so it's an odd 'emotional' connection for me.

Looks like I got my wish. PBS is running the entire series, episode one until the end, starting Saturday, Dec. 30th. Looking forward to it, have never seen a single episode.

Time for some DVR clean-up to make room :)
