Are there any plans?

Kino released a video collection years back, I'd really like to see them put out a DVD of shorts.

Would anyone else be interested in this?

I'm glad that someone else is a fan of these. I find them really fascinating. I didn't know Kino had released a collection. How did they do that? They were all made by MGM and are now owned by Warner Bros. Warner's have issued quite a few amongst the extras on some of their DVDs and there are a couple more on the new Clark Gable box set.

I'm not sure to be completely honest with you, but I saw VHS listings at Amazon and other such retailers available online with the KINO logo. It quite surprised me. It would be nice to have a remastered reissue of that collection on DVD though!

James Fitzpatrick did make a few gorgeous Technicolored Travelogue shorts for Paramount in the fifties.
If memory serves they were filmed in Vista Vision.

Maybe those were out of Copyright and fell into the hands of Kino.

Now wouldn't they look great in Anamorphic Widescreen.

Fitzpatrick's first handful of shorts were released in B&W, and although they were released by MGM, it was strictly a distribution deal of some sort, because those few B&W shorts reverted to his family who licensed them to Kino for release on VHS several years ago.

I would imagine sales were pretty low, because Kino seems to still have the rights (the VHS is still active on their web site), but they aren't on DVD. I didn't know anyone even made VHS tapes anymore!

The rest of his MGM Traveltalks, filmed in Technicolor. were fully owned by the studio, and are now in Warner Bros. very capable hands. They often use them as extras on DVD releases, but are smart enough to know that a DVD built only on this material would not sell enough units to cover the costs for
creating the packaging, much less making a profit.

Mr. Bull is correct that Paramount distributed some spectacular travelouges shot in VistaVision (VistaVision visits...(fill in the blanks). I saw these as a young kid in 16mm, and I would assume that Paramount still owns them, as the Fitzpatrick heirs would certainly have an easier time licensing color travelougues than B&W ones. Then again, I could be wrong. Just a hypothesis on my part.

Bottom line is I'm delighted whenever Warner uses these on a release. They're a lot of fun, and in some cases, they look incredibly beautiful.

I love these shorts, I've been assembling my own collection of them on DVD. I've looked in vain for a full listing of all of the shorts that were produced, but to no avail. Anybody have a clue where I could find this info?

WAC has said they are working on collections of these, the Pete Smith Specialties and The Passing Parade. I am going to enjoy these when they come out.

To see the world in color in the 1930s and 1940s is an education in itself. Fitzpatrick's travelogues are endlessly fascinating. Especially the pre-war travelogues. Europe didn't look the same after the war. I'd like to watch these collected in a set. I'd be very disappointed if I had to settle for an over-priced DVD-R from the Warners Archive, but I'd probably buy it if that was the only way to get the travelogues. In other words I'd buy it with reluctance.

If you like the Fitzpatrick travelogues, you'll love this hour-long quasi-documentary about the Navajo filmed in the red-rock country of southern Utah and northern Arizona: Another over-priced DVD-R in the Warner Archive. But the color is rich and looking good.

I just love all the colored Travel Talks. They bring you back in a time when the world was less complicated. I revel when I see them on Turner classic movies. But, I wish that they would be all put out on a DVD collection. I'm happy their are many supporters

I run a private outdoor theater in Sacramento (The Starlite) and I love the Fitzpatrick traveltalks. I keep an original series 1 TiVo operating so I can burn these and other short subjects and features in their native 4x3 format. Most people do not have the ability to do this anymore, I probably have nearly fifty of the Fitzpatrick's on DVD and would be willing to exchange with other collectors.

Warner Instant had three collections of the shorts streaming about a year ago. They looked good and bright. Since then I constantly look every week to see if they receive a release.
