I have gone into this before in other threads but the situation is most probably still that these 4 Bronston productions belong under the same ownership, not with the Weinstein company or a successor by the way:
El Cid
55 Days at Peking
The Fall of the Roman Empire
Circus World
The reason we...
I fully agree and great that you bring it up again but I would be less modest in one regard:
If properly done it would not just look good but fantastic.
Even with just 80% of the negative blown up to standard 70mm it was one of the most detailed 70mm presentations that I have seen and finally...
Why would I include titles that have a very good chance of getting released anyway and at a lower price?
That would be more of a "guess what is coming out next and worth paying more than the asking price" thread.
For example I love The Searchers but it will soon get a regular release and...
With what I have sunk into this hobby in terms of hardware those 1000$ for 20 movies that I really want would be perfectly OK for me. Sometimes we tend to forget that we buy the hardware to enjoy the software and not the other way around.
First off, I assume these would be on a shiny disc, with that being said I can think of a number of titles where 50$ would be OK and given inflation and price increases elsewhere 50$ today is probably not much more than 25$ for a DVD when those were introduced to the market.
First off, I would...
Just pointing out that it was covered in some detail in that link.
Also there sadly seems to be little of that luxury afforded to productions that do not happen to belong to one of the major studios as some of the Cinerama and Bronston movies show.
This seems to be even more true in Europe...
Agreed on digital only not being safe at all but did you read the interview I linked to?
They speak about the film-based assets and that they are in different loacations etc including ones that were produced just now.
I still have LD, Muse Hi-Vision, HD-DVD and D-Theater / D-VHS and (Super-)...
I am pretty sure this is more about the picture quality and indeed they have gone the extra mile with a very high resolution filmout:

"The source files were P3 6K and filmed out at FotoKem."

It is not quite clear if the "Seydor" cut has seen some new work done or not and I completely agree that it does not help to shorten several scenes as it affected the flow of the movie and not in a good way.
At least we are getting the last cut by Peckinpah that should leave those scenes intact.
Just asking because I am interested not because I would not buy.
There are some caps over at DVDbeaver by the way and they look outstanding. Very fine and natural detail, simply stunning!
