Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

The public doesn't know what its missing -- we need more Paul Ford these days!

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Maybe a few more people recall the Cara Williams show -- not me personally, but I don't think that plays much of a role in the one-season b&w shows that make it to DVD. For Decoy and Deadline, opportunity had a huge reason -- someone who found/owned copies of the show, along with someone who...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

We can only hope - and there isn't much evidence to support it, however - that these reissues are a means for Timeless, Shout to add capital that they reinvest into their 'new items acquisition department'...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I too mourn the drought of older, pre-70s series emerging from the dustbins. I know each has its hurdles but there are a number of treats that received legitimate release in other regions but not here (US and Canada). Just one example is The Rogues, starring Charles Boyer, David Niven and Gig...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

i was looking at this too -- i know little about it and was wondering first about the show, and then the quality of the dvd images. I haven't seen any reviews except of the Alpha versions... Would it be a good blind buy ?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

More info of the Danny Kaye Show release; listing says 300 min, with guests Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Gene Kelly, Art Carney, Rod Serling, Liza Minelli, a certain perennial 39-year-old comedy legend, and more! Because MVD were behind the Kaye Christmas DVD release, it sounds like this...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

At amazon.ca i see that Best of Danny Kaye show dvd, import, is being released Oct. 7. Anybody have any info on this -- most of the show was in B/W (1963-65 before going to colour in 1965, according to my thin research)... it's being released by Mvd ? It's a 2-disc set...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Has anyone bought Stanley? Normally, I'd jump at this as the price is good and the description is intriguing (despite not being a big Buddy fan).... However blind buys are less and less an option these days. Is it any good? Was it any good?

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Considering how lengthy and active this thread is, I'd say there should be hope for b/w dvds somewhere... if the people with the money and who want more money are reading.

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

My mistake on Iron Horse. My memories were tainted by the family shame of having a black-and-white TV up to 1968... That, a shoddy memory and a lack of faith in imdb.com... I stand corrected.

The official Oct release of Iron Horse doesn't keep you smiling a little longer? Unfortunately it is MOD, but looks like that's one of the other sad new realities...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I'm leaning to agreeing... it's strange that these two different TV marketing eras would be considered 'in conflict' when the crossover is more complementary than anything -- i collect a few 70s shows and as many 50s and 60s shows that i can afford. I don't doubt however that Shout! may steer...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

I agree with your point Neil re. the profitability of many of the remaining films and tv shows of the long-ago past. However when WBA was first announced it was made clear (or so i understood) that they would be using the dvd-r line to release a lot of its titles BUT not all, and that there was...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

For me the problem is three-fold: 1) the pricing structure does not reflect what the previous business model had established, even though the pretense for MOD is that it is more cost effective to produce, less costly to distribute (little to no warehousing or returns) and the customer like...

Is the b&w era of TV on DVD slowly coming to an end?

Haven't there been some recent releases of movies from PD that some serious-minded companies have spiffed up a bit -- i am thinking Scarlet Street, for one. Agree that PD has been the scourge of many decent release, but just like those batman fans on another thread, there's always hope...
