Well, Oppo "made" region-free DVD players. So did Pioneer, Sony, Panasonic, LG et al.
Many people assume that region-free BD acts the same way. It does not. There is no "non-code" like DVD(which would be region 0).
Just making sure others know that region-free BD requires a hack to allow...
Oh yeah. The even more ridiculous thing?Amazon US is $3.99 shipping. UK international is (after conversion, and today) $2.15.Today I placed an order on A/UK where 4 of the 7 discs are US sellers listed over there. Not only were the movies listed both places (same sellers), they were less via A/UK.
Personally, I find it a self-disservice to not have a region free player.Sure, just recently I finally bought a BD player. Since I got it...60% of my BD have been Ebay/Amazon UK.Bombay sells the LG 220(close enough if not the correct model) under $200. I got lucky and bought my Orei for...
One Eyed Jacks was already offered in BluRay from some crap source, so maybe it is soiled goods. Hope not.
The long-standing "considered best" is the R2 France Wild Side Video.
Eclectic...that I can agree on.Just this week(starting Sunday), I've already watched films by Brissau, Belvaux, Baker, Breillat and Moodysson. (I do "theme weeks". This week is director or lead actor/actress with a name starting "B")Breillat, in that group...is mainstream.
Again, Mindwarp in itself, was not what I was referring.I was referring to the defining of obscure. Alluding to a movie not in CMG as obscure is disingenuous. And partakes in the thinking "everything not Hollywood" is obscure. How much of CMG is Asian/Australian?Cause if you included just the...
My comment wasn't Mindwarp....it was how "obscurity" was defined.
TT and Criterion, in my book, are not obscure labels. Strand, Tartan and the like are.
If TT ever releases a movie by...
Sautet
Brissau
Moodysson
Vosloo
Sean Baker
Then we can talk obscure.
The issue/problem is in how a movie was judged as "obscure".
Not having a theatrical release(does SXSW or Locarno count as released theatrically?) and its non-inclusion in CMG.
If "festivals" don't count as released, there are thousands of movies a year that are "obscure"...until they...
Sure it is obscure. So is Garcon!.
Garcon! has had numerous theatrical showings(wide European release). You can't buy Garcon! (well you can, for $70+ for the non-subtitled version) or stream it. I haven't even found a Youtube post or torrent for it.
Pretty sure neither one is in the CMG.
Theatrical release?
So every "straight to DVD" movie is obscure?
I'll make the case that a movie is more obscure than its "non-inclusion" in the CMG if...
1. It isn't on Netflix...stream or DVD.
2. Not on Amazon VOD
3. Not on Hulu/Vudu or any other streaming site you can think of.
Illegally...
Fright Night is a 5-6000 BD title.
As Good as it Gets? Maybe 4000.
Christine? Come on, seriously? You don't think 10,000 could have sold? I still want Christine, but I'm not paying poachers pricing.
That is true, but maybe "powers that be" read forums and ponder an idea presented. Maybe they've thought of it themselves already.
Maybe others here could say "You know what, that could work".
And TT could, on the back end, say "Those titles were are only going to do 1000-1500 on...if it...
Now I'll ask a pertinent question...
Company policies "evolve"...and since evolving is crucial to survival...
What would happen if TT went and performed a changeup. Instead of a strict 3000 copies per movie...they saddled up to the table of "whoever" and said...(here's the question...)
"We...
From above...
"However, this has changed. Not only will it be cheaper to import it to the US with shipping"
That is the same song and dance for many titles. I bought(and returned...defective) an Orei region free. Bombay might sell me the LG BD220 for the same price as the current price of the...
Yeah, MOD "could" cause a race to the bottom in quality. Not that I want to sidetrack a TT thread...but.
Imagine if Amazon and Itunes(and whoever else you could think of...such as a B&M with this) came up with...
MOD BD. If the Itunes version of ST:ID was available on a disc...like the "cloud"...
People that buy "just because" skewer the sales quota. I actually do "get" TT sales model.
I'm waiting for the day(if it arrives soon enough) that BD has MOD. As soon as that happens, TT is a moot point.
Granted that may exacerbate the issue of "wait till I want it"...but it also solves the...
Call me the "guy who understands and yet doesn't care"...
I don't follow a studio for what they sell. The people who "buy Criterion/Twilight Time because it is a Criterion/Twilight Time" and clean the cobwebs off it are the people killing DVD/BD.
Not the people buying movies for the experience...
