I think people are going to be surprised how much of a date flick this is. When I went the second time - to a sold out show at 10:40 at freaking night, it was all dates.. and there were a -ton- of teenage girls bawling their brains out at the end.
Besides sometimes we over-stereotype an...
The Blind Side turned into the little movie that could. Yes, all due focus on Avatar.. but an amazing, amazing box office performance to reach $200M for that film. Kind of defied normal blockbuster logic.
"The Blind Side" just keeps holding in there.. Disney will capture #1, but Blind Side will have another $15M this weekend. For the budget, that film is turning into an incredibly good buy for the studio.
Besides, now that it's divided 10 ways, it could win with less then 15% of the vote. (really, it could win with 10.1%, but I can't figure a way that would ever happen realistically, though mathematically it's possible.)
Wow. Who saw that coming? Good word of mouth has to be really helping IB. Only an -8% drop Friday to Saturday, and it's now expected to be about $38M

Which will make it QT's biggest opening.
Cinemascore rating is also very high, so this might have...
HP6 could pass Up! next weekend to be the second biggest grosser of the year.
1 G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra Par. $56,200,000
2 Julie & Julia Sony $20,100,000
3 G-Force BV $9,804,000 $86,116,000
4 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince WB...
I admit, my wife & I are both interested in "Julie & Julia" the trailers are very effective and it looks like a good "feel good' kind of film. It's n my list.. on the other hand
Just looks like an abomination. I've seen two trailers for it so far, and it just looks TERRIBLE
Boy "Proposal" and "Hangover" sure had great holds this week.
"The Collector" died.
"The Ugly Truth" took a well deserved tumble.
Sad to see Up! out of the top12 :( (it had 360,000 yesterday..) but hey, it looks like it may creep to $290M (it's at 285 right now) and dependant on how it hangs...
Get Shorty was a gangster film first, and it made about $70M and has been a lackluster sale on DVD. Tropic Thunder was a breakout because it lampooned hollywood and made fun of it with a big cast and it brought the funny. Still, it made $110M, so it wasn't even in the same earnings league as a...
I rarely use this choice of words, but GI Joe should have been aborted somewhere early in the process.
GI Joe looks like a film with a budget that spiraled and absolutely no concept at all behind it. Even core "Joe" fans are wondering "what the hell is up with SuperSuit Technology?" etc.
It's...
Wife & I watched "The Proposal" today. Surprisingly funny. Betty White is absolutely AWESOME in this film. The movie itself is pretty formula, but it has some great moments. But Betty White made it completely worth attending. :)
That's a serious understatement though.. because DH sold a ton of audiobooks (leading the market for months), and has various different printings. The revenue off the book alone is monstrous... which brings me to this: I recognize most Americans are familiar with the Jim Dale reading, but I...
A few weeks ago, I felt pretty assured Up! was going to cross 300M. Now, it looks like it's still very possible, but could be very close. Looks like it needs 26M, and I can see it staying in the theaters through August, maybe.. so a few weeks to do it.. kind of a real toss up. Or am I way wrong?
Yeah, I admit.. my wife & I are also huge betty white fans. She watches Golden Girls every day, and I loved everything Betty did in "Boston Legal", and if you've never seen her (uncensored) roast William Shatner...
Ice Age is another one with a plot so bad I can't go... or I should say, I won't take the kids. I wouldn't take a kid to a movie that asserts science so bad as to have mammals move away from the ice age, the ice age ends... and dinosaurs appear? I may be a nit-picker, but since my kids LOVE...
You are correct. It's currently 240M vs. 230M. At current daily weekend rates, Up! will pass Trek Friday. So, good point. at that point, both might get lapped by Transformers. I finally talked to someone I know who got a chance to see it at a sneak.. and I had been debating seeing it, I...
The thing is, Transformers is almost guaranteed 300M (correct?) In one weekend, it may come close to equalling the current Box Office leader for the year (Up!, which just passed ST at around $227M). I believe "Up!" is a lock for $300M. So is Transformers2 pardoning any first weekend let down...
