I'm with you on this one. Additionally, IMO most of the "humor" in the Transformers films was low-ball, forced, and decidedly not funny. I didn't find it particularly endearing. Ah well, different strokes for different folks. It's what makes the world go 'round. ;)
Oh, I agree with you completely Edwin. I *liked* Pacific Rim and also think that it was far, far better than any of the three Bay films. I think that the "Transformers rip-off" perception was partly inevitable (giant robots and lots of destruction) and partly poor marketing.
I'm not so sure. There's money being invested in R-rated films - "Prometheus", "Django Unchained", "The Cabin in the Woods", "Evil Dead", "Zero Dark Thirty", "Ted", "Looper", "Dredd", "Olympus Has Fallen", "Identity Thief" - all recent R-rated movies that have done fairly well. But I think that...

Depressing indeed. IMO all the evidence we need to conclude that the human race as a species is doomed is the fact that Grown Ups 2 beat out Pacific Rim at the BO this weekend. Pathetic.
I swear, with each passing day I'm more and more convinced that "Idiocracy" isn't a movie. It's prophecy.
Just got back from a 2D Atmos presentation. I pretty much effing loved it! Despite it's influences and homages, I thought that Del Toro managed to put some real originality up on the screen. The film felt fresh. Good story, solid characterizations (with the exception of the Tweedle-dee and...
I'm pretty confident that if there's a director out there who can elevate a film of this genre above cliche and repetition it's Del Toro, and I'm willing to roll my $15 worth of dice to find out.
The reviews so far are pretty positive, with some of them almost glowing. Pacific Rim is currently sitting at 75% on the TomatoMeter. Looking forward to it.
