Interesting comments by Charles at the beginning of #022. It seems that Peter Hunt and John Cork worked on the colouring for the SE DVD and also consulted with Charles Helfenstein for the pre-credit. Makes me wonder if any of the other SE's were overseen by the directors....and its a shame Lowry...
A pretty sweet job!
Yep, no spoilers would be welcome, although like Skyfall I might have to now go on a social media blackout for 12 months. I didn't even hear the song until I saw the film for the first time. Viewing films this way is so much more rewarding.
Same with the JB Radio, they keep...
I've not seen any other details apart from Osato's link. It seems this guy has lent his voice to some of more recent animations - was he even born when this film was made?!

No one in Goldfinger, that's for sure.
Its a nice looking package and rightly the film should be celebrated for the 50 but then I though shame there is nothing new as they badly need to commission John Cork to create some new documentaries for this and Thunderball. Both are too short and quite...
Nice link Osato. I feel he is saying he struggles to watch any of his films generally as (like most directors no doubt) he is a perfectionist and is continually seeing bits he would like to go back and change - the colour of the car is mentioned.
I would be excited to get an SE of the film like...
We've started to cover some old ground here
there is an interview link in my post here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/topic/311344-mgm-press-release-bond-50-blu-ray/?p=3868830
And this was mentioned as not being the case here...
It maybe that there just isn't any news to communicate about them at the moment.
I've always been very suspicious about whether Lowry was able to use the original negatives in all instances as the documentary suggested. GoldenEye clearly wasn't and perhaps the same could be said for Spy.
Never...
Thanks for the info Osato. My setup is a little unconventional in that my blu-ray player is decoding the DTS-MA track and passing it through to an older (pre-HDMI) amp with Tannoy surrounds and sub. I found going -9dB on centre helped the distortion a lot. I’ll have a look and see if I have the...
I have an older Denon but don’t have the mic to set it up. I usually run with the centre +6 dB as I’m sitting quite far away but regardless of that the dialogue nearly always needs a helping hand.
I did find that pushing the rears up to the max did go some way to rectifying the dialled out...
The issue was with the whole film Osato! I persevered with it and had to lower the volume slightly. It wasn’t till the following day when I played around with the settings a bit more that things became more sensible. Shame really as I didn’t enjoy the film as much as I wanted to.
Interesting...
Has anyone had an issue with the audio on Live And Let Die. I was watching it last night, turned up fairly loud and the dialogue through the centre was crackly. The new surround mix on this seems to be amped up too much in the centre, once I reduced it by 9 dB to compensate did the balance seem...
If you have time to read a review of someone watching through rose tinted glasses then look no further than here:

I can’t follow this notion at all.
I’ve got the first 3 Criterion Bond LD’s and they are hardly reference for those titles anymore. In comparison to the Blu’s the black levels are more dark grey which gives an indication of how washed out everything looks. I will say they are fairly clean...
A comprehensive review here on comparing the UE DVD’s with the US & UK Blu ray box set. Some more minor things noted were “fixed” – that people might not be aware of.

There is also some comments at the bottom from Bond sound editor Norman Wanstall.
Sure, i'm partly saying this tongue in cheek. Well OHMSS has had a varied history on Home Video to say the least. I thought by now they would finally get it right - it’s astounding they still haven't.
I was wondering about this- for all the fuss that Goldeneye's received, just how watchable is OHMSS without screwing around with your screen calibration?
Unfortunately my player won't play any of these discs apart from QoS and the bonus disc! so all i've seen are a few clips in the World of...
Yep, SE's were a better reference for colour. A lot of the comparison links have been against the UE's. I'd be interested to see some against the SE's.
It’s an interesting article. Its rather wreck less of MGM to have “mislaid” the 3-stripe masters for the first 3 Bonds. Although some elements presumably exist somewhere? Criterion somehow acquired a merged SFX and music track for Dr No and Goldfinger – why weren’t the elements separate...
Well i've been celebrating by listening to some of expanded Bond scores i've got my hands on- they are fantastic quality. Currently listening to GoldenEye, its grown on me over the years and works better off of the CD rather than in the film...
IGN Everything or Nothing review
Sounds good. Can’t wait to hear what Pierce thought of the invisible car!
More coverage here – but do not watch past 1:28 if you are avoiding Skyfall clips as I just found out!
The director felt they covered the ups and downs but the review casts doubt on...
But then Lazenby was something like 28 in OHMSS and he looks as old as Brosnan in GoldenEye. Have you seen Sean in The Hill from 1965? People age differently and Sean perhaps has always looked older in his pre 60’s.
Thanks for sharing, it’s quite interesting especially when some films seem to be...
But even then they used the same actor for M! I always view these films as standalone, it saves any confusion and that’s how they are intended (apart from Quantum). The advantage is you can just jump in anywhere without having seen the prior film. Whenever there is a nod to a previous film I...
I don't think we'll be seeing them again! it'll just be the next up updated MGM logo from now on. It's kinda disrespectful to Arthur Krim and UA - the people at the original studio who actually brought Bond to the big screen. Nothing to do with MGM at the time.
A View To A Kill was never hugely cropped, it was more the pre-credit sequence that was the main issue- which had some odd framing on 2 sides of the picture.
I believe they had enough time since their financial problems to make a knockout box set. They know its going to make them a lot of...
