Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I definitely agree they are the exception and I even ordered COF when people were complaining about it . Same as the dvd - rubbish how can that be - I thought. After I'd looked at it I actually played the Warner dvd on one player and the Blu on the other player and switched between them. Even...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

It's pedantic to point it out but all Blurays are 16:9- you don't get 4:3 Blurays. You may get a 4:3 image ( like Little House on the Prairie or Star Trek) but its pillarboxed within a 16:9 frame. DVD's were technically all 4:3 but the anamorphic enhancement was used to present 16:9 images...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

Yes it's increasingly annoying to see the term anamorphic on the back of Bluray covers. Do New Line still use the R1 dvd region coding symbol on their Blurays ?

You've not seen the UK Bluray of The Curse of Frankenstein yet then? The only Bluray I've ever seen where the picture quality is no better than the dvd. The UK Blu of the original Straw Dogs comes a close second

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

Its available in Germany at a far more reasonable price than the US release although that seems to have dropped a bit since release http://www.amazon.de/House-Wax-Kabinett-Professor-Blu-ray/dp/B00DU61N9I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1399927016&sr=8-2&keywords=house+of+wax

The one thing I miss about Limewire was being able to access music that you can't get on cd or downloads

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

The main reason I got a PS3 for a second time ( having replaced the first one with a standalone Bluray player) was purely to copy my cd's to the hard drive . Every single one of my cd's ( and some downloaded tracks) are on my PS3 now . Album art added from Google Images . It means I can access...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I'm not sure even you know what you're talking about. Your post replying to mine made no sense as you seem to be disagreeing with a point I never made

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

No , let's not. There may have been a large number of BD players in homes thanks to the PS3 but how many of those PS3 consoles were purchased for anything except gaming ? And how many PS3 owners rarely or never buy Bluray movies . My son has had a PS3 for 6 years and his Bluray movie collection...

Probably not. And your point is ?

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

It is perfectly appropriate to compare LD with BD. Both are niche home video formats for quality conscious collectors. Not sure if LD penetration being referred to is US only but the format had a long slow death in the UK . Tightarse Brits refused to pay for quality and the interminable whine...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

Certain brands of players refused outright to play Avatar until they got a firmware update . That was a few years back but it could happen again . If that occurs once more an update will be a necessity and the smart tv features like Youtube etc that you get on todays players won't work if you...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I think you can get away with less than perfect sound easier than you can with video. Depending on where you listen to it the lower quality of MP3 is not always noticeable. Inferior video quality is always noticeable unless watching on tiny screens. Will collectors die out ? I don't know but...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

The EJECT button is on the player itself but I guess I'm not alone in pressing EJECT on the remote before I get to the player so not having one was a bit inconvenient until I sorted it out on the Logitech remote

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I think they tried that in the early days of dvd with discs you paid for but would only work once - IIRC it was called DIVx and it died a death. I doubt they would have a problem making discs unplayable but the simple fact that the feature was around would mean collectors just wouldn't buy...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I have WiFi streaming on the newer model aswell as other internet related features although I rarely use them . The 2012 player is wired to my router but the 2013 Bluray recorder has wifi built in . Neither has 4K upscaling . I'm not sure 4K is something that will catch on in the UK, certainly...

Because , like most jobs , if you work in it you don't want to take it home with you . Most people who work in factories packing chocolate bars can't stand to eat the stuff outside work

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

"The copyright owners of the film are the true owners". No they're not . If they came up to my front door and asked for my disc of their film I'd tell them where to go. I've been ordering Blurays and dvd's from all over the world for well over a decade and I've never been told I can't import it...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

Not really . Its about quality . I had a free trial to Amazon Prime / Instant Video and their so called HD stream of the Logans Run movie was barely VHS quality . Other HD content was better but no downloaded or streamed content gets even close to Bluray - not here in the UK at any rate. And if...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I had read that the UK was the country in Europe where Bluray was selling best of all yet there are some Hollywood titles that have been released in Europe or elsewhere first and in some cases the UK misses out altogether. Thank heaven for being multi region. ITV who own a mountain of classic...

Not just 3D, is Blu-ray media dying?

I do hope that rather than let the format die out that independent labels like Twilight Times may persevere with releasing catalogue titles even at inflated prices . If getting our favourite films in HD means returning to pricing similar to the days of Laserdisc then so be it. As things stand...
