Massive Media Server Project For Non-Profit Digital Archive

Right now I'm in the process of ripping my entire DVD collection to a streaming media server. It gives me a Netflix style menu sorted by genre with pictures, credits, title info and synopsis, and it streams to my iPad, even if I'm not at home. That totally beats shiny plastic disks.
My mom just...
I'm sure there are some people who never figured out how to use a VCR and are still watching their TV set... but now it is probably a smart TV with Netflix.
My point is, there are costs associated with physical media... remastering, extras, packaging, manufacturing, warehousing, distribution...
As the profits from bells and whistles versions of films on blu-ray dwindle, and the income from streaming rises, it's much more attractive to the studios to forgo all the supplements and packaging and manufacturing and distribution costs of blu-ray and just stream a file to you over the...
I suspect that many of the big studios are aiming for streaming and download sales for niche market back catalog titles, rather than blu-ray or DVD. That is probably where a lot of these restorations are going to end up. Foreign markets will be slower to make that transition, so perhaps they...
Have there been any successful catalog title blu-ray big box sets? It seems all of them get radically discounted after a while of sitting on the shelf at full price. Perhaps the Star Trek TV show sold well... maybe Twilight Zone.
The French blu-rays aren't region locked. Any player will play them.
I have a question on the French disks. Does anyone really know for sure which Universal transfer these were made from? Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man looks spectacular, but there has clearly been no despeckling or grain...
That doesn't bother me. I don't care about 3D, and if Universal ever gets around to releasing these, I can get that too and be able to choose between open matte and widescreen that way.
I've got three of the French Universal monster disks so far and they're great. Haven't watched House of Dracula yet, but both Son of Frankenstein and Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man look fantastic. No digital alteration at all, just really nice clean HD transfers. Region free, optional French...
They released the later Frankenstein films on blu-ray in Germany. They aren't cheap though. All individual releases. 2 disc sets. Not sure if the second disc is a DVD or supplements.
Horsefeathers was never re-released to theaters after 1932 that I know of. The Marx Brothers had gone to MGM and Paramount would have had no reason to promote them. When Universal took over the license to the film, they struck a copy and edited it for contemporary television. That cut never...
Horsefeathers was released in 1932, not 1934. The cuts were made for *TV* release long after the film was made. Universal kept using the same TV master on home video. The idea is that now, they will go back to the 35 original elements, not the TV print.
FINALLY! Marx Brothers! I hope Horsefeathers isn't the edited version Uni has been putting out for the past couple of decades. Odd that they are doing all those Frankensteins and no creatures or invisible mans.
King of Jazz will be amazing I bet!
