TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Well, they say they have checked this against original Italian prints. Bruce has also commented between similarities between this and a print he viewed recently. If the memory of the cameraman was the only thing we had, then you might have a point. As soon as someone gives me a time code for...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

So I can check for myself, can someone give a timecode on this. Steve W

He's restoring I Know Where I'm Going! isn't he. Don't answer that - let me dream. Steve W

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Where to start? :D Firstly, the first two parts of the trilogy are the same as the old releases. The third part has been scanned at 4K, and is devoid of EE and DNR. Some people have issues with the colour timing, which is quite different to previous versions, but the colour was decided on...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Where are all the reviews? Where's RAH's A Few Words About... ? I simply can't understand the deathly silence on this - all we have is uninformed comments from non-professionals (like me!), and no trusted, expert opinion available. Steve W

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Alan, I agree with that, at least in part. Even if the colour is 100% correct, then I think everyone concedes it looks different to previous versions. Having spent so much time, effort and money on a new 4K scan, etc, I'd have thought they'd be wanting something on the disc. Nonetheless...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

As far as I'm aware it's just the colour - picture-wise, that is. Perhaps that's the thing - it's otherwise so good I maybe wouldn't notice if everyone looked like a smurf! Steve W

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

The more I look at the comparisons, the less bad the new 'yellow/green' looks when you're not comparing it to the pure sky blue of the old version. Steve W

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

So pleased to be living in the UK and being able to buy this on its own. I'm hoping that, when the other two are finished, they get a German release with the English soundtrack. Steve W

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

For anyone who wants to do that they have the caps up on Cap-A-Holics, which I understand is thought to be very accurate. In as far as these things are. Right, this is what the difference looks like in most of the comparisons I've seen...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Full ISF calibration. None on my laptop, to be fair. But I've viewed the caps on several monitors and found they looked very similar. If I can I'll download the caps and put them up on the projector, too. I'm not supporting the caps or dismissing them, I'm just really passing on my...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

I suppose that's all I have to offer. It might be that in 5 minutes RAH publishes his A Few Words About... and trashes it. I can only relate my own experiences - I was expecting it to be (at the very least) distractingly yellow, and it wasn't. To me. Steve W

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Ron, what I'm going to do is this. I'm going to try to take some caps from both old and new releases, then compare them on both my PC, and the same portion of the disc as a still on my projector, to see if something odd is going on. Maybe capturing the still exagerates the colour, or maybe...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

You know, maybe so. But if that's correct, that diminishes the argument that this is 'wrong' in the first place. If what you're saying is true, then if a director decides to make a film particularly dark, light, green, megenta, whatever, but our brains ignore it after a few minutes, then it's...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Okay, I'm saving this film for a special viewing, so I haven't watched my copy in its entirety. But I did put the disc in my player and stick it up on my calibrated projector, 2.8m wide screen. To be honest, I almost stopped reading these threads for a while. In theory, what MGM and the...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Immediately I'm thinking of It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. I don't think it was too long between the MGM release and the Criterion. There we have a film released by MGM in one cut, but re-released by Criterion with another cut which fans were crying out for. Does that scenario ring any...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

Apparently, when they restored this they had access to IB prints and the assistant cameraman for advice. Quick question here. I want you to image a very slightly alternate history. Let's say the IB prints looked like this (yellow-ish) and the assistant confirmed that was the original look...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

I am smiling quietly to myself. When the dollars trilogy first appeared, in the UK we had to buy all 3 in a box - if we wanted individual releases we had to import. Now the boot's on the other foot. :P I have the various imported/German versions of the first two, so I'll be buyingthe UK...

TCFHE Press Release: The Man With No Name Trilogy (Blu-ray) (Re-Release)

A quick point (question?). Has any seen a 4K remaster that's a duff yet? Surely at this stage, after all the mistakes made with DNR, etc. on Blu-ray Disc releases, they're only going to go to the time, trouble and (let's face it) expense of creating a 4K master if they want it out there...
