Sorry Foxy, I was probably not as clear as I intended.
Just to be 100% on this - I don't think a Bly-ray Disc in 1080p will look 'massively' better from a 4k scan than from a 2k scan.
Yes, they should scan at 4k if possibly for archiving.
Yes, when we get a 4k medium (source and display)...
Those quotes from RD & GC are about getting all of the detail off 35mm.
They are about how much extra you will see in 1080p from a 4k scan compared to 2k.
And even there, I see no use of terms like 'massive'.

Interesting comments here from Roger Deakins on using the Arri Alexa camera on Skyfall.

He thinks it's as good as, or possibly better than 35mm. The AA is 3.5k, by the way.

Foxy, I'm sure that a transfer taken from a 4k scan give give a slightly better picture than one from a 2k scan. Agreed.
But 'far better'? A 'lot of improvement'?
Based on the reviews we've seen so far of the recent 'Mastered in 4K' titles, I only see comments about relatively small...
I'm with you Craig. I have both of those, and I don't remember a bad word being said about either of the releases when reviewed on their initial UK Blu-ray Disc release.
If by magic the new ones are substantially better, I might consider double dipping, but they first releases look so good...
