Sorry, John, it looked fine to me when I checked it here and there yesterday (I would guess better than the coming MOD), but that is as far as I will go. Picture "quality" seems to be an "eye of the beholder" sort of thing and if there is anything I have learned from these (and other discussion)...
I received my copy of the WESTERN UNION Blu from Germany and am pleased to report it seems to be Region Free as it plays on my Region A machine - the Blu does have a "B" on the back, but it is not correct, at least as far as my machine is concerned.
There is a Blu of WESTERN UNION available from Germany:

I have avoided Fox offerings for quite some time, but I will probably and try Hawk's THE...
I agree with Bob regarding the quality of INFERNO (1953). Sorry to say SHOW THEM NO MERCY (1935) is not up to this (I wish) standard, however it is not terrible (no restoration, off the shelf print) but it is a fine period gangster film with good work by the entire cast, plus the ending is...
I was fooled by the Cahn film as I was surprised to find he shot it in scope. I pretty much only purchase their pre-1953 stuff with the expectation they were shot 1.33:1. An exception is that I have placed an order for NO DOWN PAYMENT as I love this film, but I do have my fingers and toes...
If we ever start that thread about incorrect Fox Cinema Archives aspect ratios, I can add Edward L. Cahn's TWELVE HOURS TO KILL which shows "Cinemascope" in the non-anamorphic opening credits which are presented as a tiny rectangle in the center of my screen, right after the I hoped I would...
Thanks for the information, Justin, and, if possible, please let us know the actual aspect ratio for A HATFUL OF RAIN when you receive the DVD. Fleischer's CRACK IN THE MIRROR should also be "scope" so my fingers will be crossed until this one is listed.
So, how accurate are the listings on MU - NO DOWN PAYMENT is listed as "Cinemascope" which is correct, but A HATFUL OF RAIN is listed as "full screen" although the film was shot in scope. Do we have to wait until someone takes a chance and orders them so they can report on what is what? Having...
