When I saw Olive back at the top of the subjects, I expected it was another post regarding the absence of release news and what is what with Olive . . . what a nice surprise to discover a long list of new titles (Altman, Siodmak, Witney, Guest, Aldrich, noirs, crime, serials, rock'n-roll!) as...
I was able to see the Film Noir Foundation restoration of CRY DANGER a few years ago and I can add my thumbs up! to those who have already written - an excellent film with a fine performance by Richard Erdman as the best friend stock character. This is the first film by Robert Parrish who went...
Yes, this is a wonderful movie. Yet another one of those films Olive keeps coming up with that I never expected to have on a quality DVD, let alone a Blu.
This is a list posted over on Blu-ray.com regarding Olive, but no way of knowing how correct it will prove to be:
May 28:
The Magic Christian (1969)
Shanks (1974)
The File on Thelma Jordon (1950)
Dark Command (1940)
Blowing Wild (1953)
Lady from Louisiana (1941)
I received an email from Amazon that STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT, DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID, RED MENACE, and SHE DEVIL have all shipped. Guess they were not as delayed as we thought.
When your Broadway debut is as Apassionata Von Climax in LI'L ABNER, it is probably hard to get away from that sort of part when Hollywood calls, even if you have studied at the Actors Studio. Tina Louise also does fine work opposite Ryan Ryan in one of my favorite westerns, Andre De Toth's DAY...
I can honestly say the packaging/artwork is of little interest to me, it is what's inside that counts and I have been pleased with the quality of most of what Olive has produced. Once the package is sitting on the shelf with only the spine exposed to view, I seldom spend a lot of time thinking...
Yes, it would be too bad if Mr. Lime/Scott chose to pull out of this forum - I believe he did quit posting on the CriterionForum after a situation somewhat like this. I for one have come to rely on his posts and would not be happy trying to find out about Olive releases without this important...
Well, I love the majority (vast majority) of the work Criterion does, and I admire what Olive has done to release fine Blu-rays of movies I never expected to see the light of my television screen (I must add the additonal cost of the Blu when compaired to the Olive DVD has been more than worth...
I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, but DeepDiscount has an Olive sale going on, perhaps not really a deep, deep discount, but better than nothing . . .

Boy, yet another great group of releases - of course the Welles film, as well as Cyrano are excellent, but if you have never seen Cukor's A DOUBLE LIFE (an actor playing Othello blurs the line between himself and his character) you are in for a treat.
Well, I am glad someone around here is able to keep me informed regarding these important releases from Olive; it's kind of fun to know what is what long before they are announced on the Olive Films site.
I attended a Film Noir Festival a couple of years ago and Eddie Muller of the Film Noir Foundation said Endfield's THE SOUND OF FURY/TRY AND GET ME (1950) was a film they were planning to restore, then release on DVD in the same way they handled the restoration of Losey's THE PROWLER (1951) two...
Yes, I did get a bit angry at them the last couple of weeks as they refuse to answer any email questions regarding my order (hate to be ignored), but it is hard not to forgive and forget (I will go back to ordering from amazon) when they keep putting out movies like these on Blu.
Thanks. I thought I would order directly from them so they would make a bit more money, but if/when this order finally ships, it might be easier to go back to amazon. Good intentions and all that . . .
I have tried to email Olive Films twice in the last week and have received no answer. Then I tried to call them on the phone number listed on their site and was informed it was not in service. Does anyone have a good number for them or any knowledge regarding what might be going on? My last...
After seeing the first few months of Olive Releases, decisions are being made by my kind of person - I hope they strike a deal with Universal next. Even the covers for this batch are pretty cool.
This is on a different subject, but since it relates to Olive Blus I thought I would ask it here - does ayone else have a receiver that has a problem reading Olive DTS-HD mono tracks? I have an Elite receiver that is four or five years old and has the ability to read DTS-HD mono (it plays the...
I, of course, agree with you both, which is why I opened with "For what it is worth . . . " and went on to say "Probably best to take this with a grain of salt until something from Olive comes to the surface . . . " in my original post - we have all been burned at one time or another by taking...
For what it is worth, here is a list of films recently posted on the Criterion Forum that might end up as Olive DVDs and/or Blus. Probably best to take this with a grain of salt until something from Olive comes to the surface, but there are certainly a bunch of these that would go to the top of...
