Glad the parade went well! Calgary held a rally for the Flames downtown yesterday. Over 20,000 people attended. :D Makes me wonder what would have happened if we WON.
Cool stuff! I sent a letter to the editor of the Calgary Sun, one of our local papers. I *had* to say "thanks" to the Flames for such a great playoff run. :) They published it today. (Link will only work for today...the 9th.) They edited it ... I thought my original was a tad...
Well that was a helluva run! Joe, I'm jealous that you were able to attend such a once-in-a-lifetime event. Must have been something else! Even if my team didn't win! :) Those last few minutes were thrilling as hell. To bad my boys couldn't get past the "Bulin Wall". ;) Great great...
Great demo with the puck/tile pics Joe! :) It was a HELL of a game. I'm greatly looking forward to tonight. Naturally, I want my Flames to kick some BoltButt, but before we get into it...I gotta say BRAVO to both teams. Great series! :D
I gotta disagree as well. Was it a dirty hit? You bet. But the guy that got nailed was okay within half-an-hour. Had he been given even a small concussion, I'd agree that Nimenen should have gotten more of a suspension. That being said, I'm quite certain I have a biased opinion. ;)
I heard a great quote from the Bolts' coach today. Someone said something about the oft-mentioned "bad ice" excuse. His response was something to the effect of "as far as I know, both teams were playing on the same ice...so it's no excuse". Nicely handled. Yeah, Calgary is a fun place to...
Joe, I'm jealous of your tickets! :D Naturally, I'm favouring Calgary. :D I'm gonna say Calgary in 6. This is gonna be a fun series to watch!
Thanks for that Mark. :)
Hee! A business associate of mine was up there yesterday. He had his Flames flag on, and alternatley got thumbs-up and middle-fingers directed his way. He had a great time. :D
So does this mean the Flames have jumped-the-shark? Okay... I know it was a groner. :D Seriously, I came here to post this quote from Phil Esposito regarding the possibility of a Flames/Lightning final. (Please forgive if someone has already posted this..)
Here is the whole...
Forgot to share this one... CJAY92, the local hard-rock station, pulled an AMAZING prank yesterday. They equipped a couple of semis with the horn from a DIESEL TRAIN. They drove by the hotel the Sharks were staying in (and so was Don Cherry, as it turns out) and blew that sucker at 6:15 AM...
Oh I'm sure there are tons of "casual" fans jumping on the bandwagon. But that doesn't change a thing. The whole city just has a Flames-party atmosphere. I've never seen the like. :D 20,000 people crammed 17th Avenue last night to celebrate. (17th ave is fairly close to the Saddledome, and...
From the Calgary Herald:
I've lived in Calgary for most of my life. I was here for the '89 cup win. My dad was the local play-by-play guy for the Flames for 20 years. Needless to say, I love the Flames. That being said, I've NEVER seen the city like this. Everywhere you look, little Flames...
YEEE-HAH!!!! I told my co-workers at the beginning of this series that it would be Flames in 6. None of 'em believed me. Glad to be right! :D Calgary was a total MADHOUSE last night!!! Stanley Cup Final... I'll be damned. GO FLAMES GO!!!!!!!!!
I must have missed that memo Michael. :D
So let me get this straight. You've agree that the Flyers' PK line has been terrible, and that their PP line hasn't been scoring. You can't win hockey by relying on your regular 5-on-5 lines. The special teams need to do their jobs as well. (Just had to get my two cents in. I'm not cheering...
 That was great! What a terrific, exciting game! Both teams were just amazing! Detroit fans, your team played one hell of a game! Kudos! I just gotta say, for years I've been a little cheesed with pro hockey...mostly because major teams could put up the bucks to almost BUY the...
Just had to add a quick couple of comments. 1. GO FLAMES GO! :D 2. Crappy about Yzerman! I hope he recovers okay. Broken eye-socket. GAH! That's nasty. I heard on the radio this morning that he had to have 4 hours of surgery. He's expect to recover, but he's done for the year. That sucks...
Gentlemen...is there REALLY any point to debating this? I think it's safe to say that ALL "professional" sports teams have their rabid/prone-to-stupidity fans that do silly things when their teams win/lose. Why debate this? Let's carry on, shall we? :) Oh... and... GO FLAMES GO! ;)
Couldn't agree more Paul. But I agree with Michael... don't let a few idiots paint a picture of the rest of us. Even if it was "more than a handful". Just shameful behaviour. Now I DO hafta say that I'm THRILLED for the Flames. Been a long time since playoff fever swept this city...
