Reports at Dharmesh's message board and at capedwonder are saying that the 1978 sound is not on the new Superman: The Movie DVD...people aren't happy about this.
That is what I want to know also. It only states 5.1, which could mean the awful 2001 version edited to fit the theatrical cut and not the original soundtrack. This was done in Europe and for cable tv broadcasts. This of course ruins the beauty of having the theatrical cut. I really would like...
Where are the 43 minutes cut out of Superman - The Movie? Disc 2 and 3 of this set looks suspiciously just like the current release, which means the only restored scenes would be Lex and "the babies".
All of the cartoons are included in the Reeve box set. Half will be included with the first movie and the other half will be included with the second movie.
As long as it doesn't remind us of that clip from The Simpsons when the editor of "Radioactive Man - The Movie" tries to demonstrate that Milhouse isn't needed to film the rest of the movie. :)
You would think Donner had finished shooting all of the Daily Planet material since the Phantom Zone criminals tearing it apart is his footage.
As for the complaint that a lot of Donner's Superman II footage was slapstick, I would imagine a lot of this being cut. The 188 minute version of...
And the interesting thing is that most of these are all story issues that were there before the switch in directors! Granted, in Donner's version we see that it's Jor-El that gives up everything to give Superman his powers back and not just a green crystal.
I can't wait to see what we get, but...
Why wouldn't it? The restored theatrical cut (with the bogus new re-mix) has been shown on television numerous times. If we can finally get the gorgeous restored picture, with the original sound and edit, it will make this entire 14 disc set worthwhile.
Oh yeah, this new version of Superman...
I don't know, I think it's all very exciting news...there could really be something special in the works. I think Salkind being involved is a good thing...as I think all involved want to make money and they know releasing the lost footage would be a cash cow.
I personally don't think it would make sense for Warner Bros. to restore Donner's unseen footage to only have them linger as supplements on a second disc.
It is going to take a lot of money to restore this footage, I think if it does happen, it will happen in the form of a re-cut.
Besides...
