Techman707, I also hope that we see Around the World in 80 Days in 30fps Todd-AO soon, and have the strength to see it in your large home theater. Ever since I broke my hip, I've not been able to see/hear anything in my upstairs home theater and I miss it.
Mike, I hope you don't spend too much time working over your display. If the picture looks good to your eyes, then so be it. I'm watching King and I right now and like what I see.
There are some nice supplements on Todd-AO Oklahoma! including 2 Todd-AO shorts, kinescopes of Gordon McCrae and Florence Henderson singing songs, a commentary, a comparison of CinemaScope to Todd-AO and more. This is a nice package.
The set showed up in the mailbox this afternoon. I've started with Oklahoma! and all I can say is Wow! The shots of horse riding through corn are astonishing. When we see Aunt Eller churning butter, it looks like she is 3D in the foreground. The picture is so clear.
I saw Sunset Blvd on Broadway and listened to the Los Angeles cast recording and Glenn Close could sing just fine. She wasn't as nuanced a singer as Petula Clark, whom I also saw, or the first national tour (which starred the hydraulic mansion) but she could definitely sing.
It just says Expected delivery today by 8:00pm. I don't have a screen grab of what the product page said after I ordered it. Still, for $80 tax included, I don't feel too bad about a one day delay.
Who has seen the stage counterpart of these films? I've seen the London revival of Oklahoma! on video (the one with Hugh Jackman) and you can see it for free on the PBS app. Saw Carousel on Broadway and on tour. Saw King and I on tour with Stacey Keach as King and a 36 piece orchestra and years...
I've never seen State Fair and it has been years since I've seen all but The Sound of Music. First thing tomorrow will be a screening of Oklahoma! In Todd AO. I wonder how my 2006 Mitsubishi DLP will handle 1080i at 30fps, whether that picture will have a live through the window look.
