    "Everything but the kitchen sink" I'm always puzzled by the symbolism associated with or the significance of the 'kitchen sink'.

    "The whole nine yards" Why precisely nine yards? What does that refer to? "To sweat like a pig" Please correct if I'm wrong but pigs do not have sweat glands so they cannot perspirate anyway.
