Not exactly. Remember that Cinerama in its original incarnation was 3-strip, 6 perf 35mm running at 26 fps. We could debate all day about magnification, but Cinerama simply used more film, resulting in a sharper, smoother image. Check out the comparison at the American Widescreen Museum here...
