Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

I paid about $80 per month to CenturyLink for phone/internet, but the best they offer is 3MB service. Pretty sad. Had Comcast for several years, I forget the exact speed, it was basically instantaneous. But they constantly had what I referred to as "mystery pricing", which of course only went...

Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

Funny you mention streets. We've got one I drive over to get to my garage, has this six inch dip in it, kind of a reverse speed-bump. Drove over it again today, just grumbling to myself that it's been there 25 years or so, I'll be long dead and gone before it ever gets repaired. An HOA does have...

Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

Oh Mark, so glad I live in a standard single family home, no HOA. My neighbors are all decent, we basically police ourselves, no rules, no committees to discuss things. If I want to plant pink roses instead of white, it's my choice. Had a neighbor who put up a satellite dish in the late '90s...

Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

Other than a ten day power outage, Dish never went down. CenturyLink on the other hand took 54 days to reconnect my landline. Had a cheapo TracPhone just for emergencies, maybe spent $100 a year on it, but forced to keep buying more minutes since it was the only service I had. CenturyLink...

Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

Best advice I can come up with for everyone, is call the companies and complain. Even if they have a monopoly in your area, they will almost always drop your rates if you threaten to leave. Both Dish Network and CenturyLink cut my bill. Not huge, but I'm saving about $40 a month now, no change...

Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

I've come across that "damned if you, damned if you don't situation". Cut the cord and I've got to upgrade to Comcast high speed internet, then sign up for Service A for some channels, Service B for others, possibly put up some goofy antennae for local, then get a DVR from somebody. Sorry to...

Dumped Cable TV - Saving $109/mo - Still have 45+ channels

Thanks for the info. I'm a bit behind the times, but want a dual tuner, and not have to pay TIVO fees. Been with DISH for eight years, it's just fits my personality and I'm really happy with them. Called and bitched, and they did cut my price. Also got CenturyLink to cut my landline price and...
