Neal,
Cleo the Basset Hound on The People’s Choice was voiced by Mary Jane Croft.
Cleo whose real name was Bernadette was trained by famous animal trainer Frank Inn. Bernadette who won a Patsy Award in 1958 also appeared on Ozzie and Harriet, The Bob Cummings Show, The Perry Como Show, The...
Neal,
One thing I always noticed during the pilot episode of The Match Game was the goofy microphone set up Gene Rayburn had to deal with. It looked like his mic was attached to a block of wood, which then went around his neck.
NBC’s sound engineers couldn’t come up with a better set up ??
John
Neal,
People Are Funny has to have the weirdest closing theme ever. Also, the audience shots at the end look pretty fake also. I guess TV viewers were more gullible back then.
John
Neal,
Interesting show, but actually, how could anyone realistically remember so many quotes made by politicians and celebrities ?
BTW… June Lockhart looks beautiful.😊
John
Neal,
I felt so sorry for this man who’s talent couldn’t overcome the racist feelings in the 1950’s. His NBC TV show in the mid ‘50’s couldn’t get any sponsorship. Many national companies balked at sponsorship, as they did not want to upset their white, ignorant, hillbilly customers in the...
Neil,
No matter how many times I see it,
The Honeymooners Christmas episode with the curtain call at the end, gets me.
So classy and unforgettable.
Happy Holidays 🎄
John
Neal,
London was the real name of the dog who starred in most of the original “The Littlest Hobo” episodes. There were also several stand in shepherds.
I loved that show as a kid. Love the theme song also.
John
Neal,
I had 2 occasions where I met Jack Paar.
I had an after (high) school job working at a Texaco station in New Canaan, Ct.
Fellow resident Jack Paar used to stop in regularly, for gas in his bright yellow Citroen. I found him to be friendly and easy to talk to.
About 8 years later I had a...
Neal,
The Rifleman is my favorite western series.
Great writing and interaction between Lucas and his son Mark.
Several years ago I purchased the original soundtrack to this show…great music.
John
Neal,
About 25 years ago when I was living in Connecticut, there was a TV station out of New London that aired Wyatt Earp with the original opening and closing sponsor tags intact. I remember Gold Medal flower as a frequent sponsor.
Keep up the great work 👍
John
Neal,
My Grandmother used to watch this show religiously.
Surprised this is a 16mm print. I thought this show was videotaped in color and those tapes, saved.
John
Hi Neal,
Enjoyed your discussion on the tropo/skip days of analog TV.
Several times while living in New Canaan, Ct. I would pick up stations in Delaware and Maryland. Once even picked up a PBS station out of West Palm Beach, Fl.
I would spend summers on Cape Cod which was notorious for bad TV...
Neal
Once again its too bad NBC wiped just about all of the original Match Game.
I think you can see that this copy is a kinescope of a videotape, which was originally aired in color.
John
Neal,
I love the theme song to this show, sung by Jerry Scroggins who later sang the theme to The Beverly Hillbillies (The Ballad Of Jed Clampett)
John
Neal,
I wish Paramount would get off its a$$ and finish releasing Ben Casey. It wouldn’t take too much effort on their part as the release of season one shows very little if any, restorative effort. Just a repackaging of their syndication prints minus that hideous Worldvision logo.
John
Hi Neal,
One of my favorite Wagon Train episodes, “The Tobias Jones Story” stars Lou Costello.”
Great dramatic acting on his part and also great acting by Beverly Washburn (the little girl) who I met several years ago and mentioned what a pleasure it was to work with Lou.
John
Neal,
I believe one of the earliest, regularly videotaped shows on CBS was The Ed Sullivan Show. I believe they started taping that show in 1959.
The earliest surviving videotaped show is also a CBS program, The Edsel Show taped October 13, 1957.
CBS recently donated all of its Red Skelton...
Neal,
Its too bad that ABC wiped the videotapes of the Frank Sinatra Timex Show.
That common practice by ABC and NBC destroyed many shows forever or left us with inferior kinescopes. CBS was more protective and many of their early 2 in. Videotapes survive and look awesome, albeit in b/w.😉
John
Neal,
Jack Sterling also hosted a very popular morning radio program on WCBS in New York from 1947 until 1966.
WCBS was a “MOR” music station back then, later to become all news in 1967.
John
Mysto,
We used to get the Kelloggs Snack Pak version.
I used to sneak downstairs early on weekend mornings and grab my favorite cereal before my brothers and sisters woke up.
