I just don't understand why MGM would pay all that money on a new pristine transfer, but then not add a few extras to go with it. If they did that they could call it an SE and increase the price a bit. Having said that, the film is the most important thing, and it is good that they have done...
I think it is because MGM transfers are now being done by Deluxe Digital, with maybe Fox checking / preserving the elements. Whatever it is, the quality has gone up on MGM discs. They are still bare bones releases, but the transfers of The Gunfight at Dodge City, Navajo Joe, and The Westerner...
I watched The Gunfight at Dodge City last night and really liked it. It is only a B western but the story is familiar but compelling, and the acting is great all round (including Timothy Carey hamming things up as usual in an uncredited role). It was directed by Joseph M. Newman who seems to be...

Andrew V. McLaglen is a pretty well known director, he just isn't particularly good! :D He isn't as good as (The Gunfight at Dodge City director) Joseph M. Newman, who is under rated, hence I went for that film instead of The Way West. I think the Top 1000 voter ratings are more accurate...
I like these covers too. But I also like the vintage art Warner generally uses. I just hope the quality of the transfers is above the regular standard from MGM, ultimately that is more important for me than the covers.
I'll be getting these, and maybe Man of the West if it is better quality than the Region 2 and 4 copy I already own. I'm very interested in Gunfight at Dodge City. It was directed by Joseph M. Newman who I think is an under-rated director of B films. I watched a widescreen recording of Fort...
