DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

An audio complaint: preface: I did not do any kind of comparisons to previous release. The following is an observation I noticed which I don't recall anyone addressing here: Sometimes the ambient sound is so loud that you can hear it being faded down right before someone...

So are people actually watching the films, or just doing comparisons with previous releases?

That doesn't mean it was mic'd in such a way that it could be convincingly remixed to surround sound. The record industry has been making multi-track recordings since the late 50s, but the mic placement was done in such a way to optimize stereo imaging, while also allowing for post-production...

I agree, but the flip-flopped orchestra in the surrounds sounds like a pretty clumsy goof.

Re: Violins Neil, Is it only the violins, or has the entire orchestra been flip-flopped in the surrounds? I've never really listened to the music that closely, but it could be possible that the violins were divided for the recording session, and for whatever reason, someone decided...

It strikes me as desperately trying to wrap everything up neatly. The SE inclusion of the various planets celebrating emphasizes this. I suppose had it been open ended in anyway (similar to how ANH ended), everyone would have assumed that there would be another film.

Well, the end of ROTJ is a bit strange. Just because The Emperor and Vader are dead, as well as the death star being destroyed, again, does that mean everyone else in the Empire is just going to surrender? And to whom? The small band of rebels? What happened to all of the Star Destroyers and...

More like 99% of people aren't going to be listening for such changes to the audio track.

There are some good changes in there. As already mentioned, there were some poor shots in the ANH death star battle; the new ones blend pretty well. One shot I was very happy to see redone was the one from underneath the falcon right after Luke fires the protons in the vent shaft. It always...

This is Hollywood. It's dog-eat-dog, or rather "dog doesn't return other dog's phone call." They'll get over it.

It's more like 'Version 2.31'. Unlike the SEs, no new scenes have been added since the previous release. I haven't seen the discs yet, but it sounds like few (if any) scenes have been overhauled like Mos Eisley was for the SE. By far the biggest noticeable changes are Hayden Christensen and Ian...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

As hard as it is to believe, most people buying the DVDs will not care. They'll see that Greedo shoots first, say "that's still stupid," notice that punk teenager has now been inserted into ROTJ, and will NOT race to their computers to register their disgust all over the Internet. Anyone that is...

DVD Review *** Official HTF REVIEW & Discussion Thread: Star Wars Trilogy, pt. 1

There's going to be no other version available. It's just this. For all intensive purposes, the other versions no longer exist. Oh come on. You're really grasping for straws now. The intent of using the word "original" is to say that these are not the prequels . Maybe...

I don't think an "ordinary person" is going to care.
