That $3K Panasonic is a niche product for the Japanese market with a 3 TB hard drive for recording Japanese UHD TV, and it is also an UHD Blu-ray player. I wouldn't waste any energy worrying that this somehow reflects what the typical UHD Blu-ray player price range will be.

Ah, you're referring to the monitors. Then no. I don't believe most 4K monitors can display full rec 2020 color space. I'm not even sure if they can do DCI/P3. But I think some of the newer stuff coming out this year could.
I'm not sure, but I don't think any existing 4K TV's can do HDR...

Yep, that's the main benefit of UHD BD for film fans. Digital Cinema Initiative P3 (the spec is also including rec 2020) color space, a minimum of 10-bit video (supposed to allow for optional higher bit rates), and high dynamic range is something all existing films should benefits from.

I hope this is marketed as Ultra High Definition Blu-ray instead of "4K" and is considered an extension of BD, like 3D, rather than a new separate format. Calling it 4K brings all the attention to the resolution, and the reality is (as has been stated many times here) most modern films have...
I also hope there is some official info on 4K blu-ray (or UHD-BD). They've still been saying that it should be available by the end on this year, so I'm hoping there is something concrete on this.
