Didn't realize you hadn't seen it yet. Yes, the decisions about what combination of sexuality, language, and violence warrant what ratings has always been odd. There are plenty of interesting comments from films makers about this arbitrary process. I wish I could remember the specifics, but I...
No, but it is clearly more violent and brutal. I saw it twice theatrically and the elevated brutality jumped out at me when watching the extended version, even though I wasn't sure exactly what was different at the time (except for the completely new scenes). Not sure how one can think it isn't...
Here is a detailed run down of the differences between the theatrical and extended cuts. http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=274643The author does a good job with this comparison, but I'd ignore his comments on his opinion of the movie.
What a gorgeous transfer on the blu ray!I just finished watching the extended version (only available on the "Unleashed Extended Edition"), and I think it added a good deal to the experience. It doesn't change the story or and new subplots or anything, but it definitely fleshes out some of the...
http://m.deadline.com/2013/11/james-mangold-hugh-jackman-sinking-claws-into-another-the-wolverine-film/Fox is negotiating for another Wolverine film with Jackman to be helmed by Mangold.
Release date for the BD is December 3. So less than a month until fans get to see the extended version. The extended version is only going to in the collector's edition release, I think.
"Interesting"I think it's a good possibility they may want him on X-Force. Wolverine wasn't part of the original team, but he's been a main player in the more recent runs. I wouldn't mind another solo film as well. Maybe a story following his and Yukio's adventures in the time between The...
I wanted to get a better understanding of the cultural significance of ritual suicide by warriors in Asian culture and read a few interesting things. I had more detailed info and links, but the stupid iPad keeps refreshing the screen as I'm putting together the post and clearing everything...
I'm no expert on the matter, but it seems like you're applying Western values to a Japanese soldier from WWII.I'm not saying he was jerk, or a "bad guy" back then. He clearly was being decent "from our perspective" by letting prisoners go. But again, the ritual suicide was a cultural thing that...
If you think about it, Yashida was set up from the start as somewhat dishonorable because he was afraid to commit the ritual suicide with his comrades. That planted the little seed that this man wasn't ready to accept death, then or seventy years later.
Oh, and I also think the stuff in Logan's head with Jean was really well done. It gave a very nice sense of closure to that relationship and her death at the hands of Logan in The Last Stand. It's weird to say, but the way that was handled in this film actually makes me feel a bit better about...
Oh yes, I'd definitely say it's a much more grown up film. It's been a long while since I've read the comics this was based on, so I couldn't say much about Yukio's feelings for Logan in the original story. But they definitely have something there with this character and her partnership with...
Saw it this afternoon and I thought it was really good. Definitely a change of pace from other comic book based films, and that's appropriate for Wolverine. X-Men Origins: Wolverine tried to be "X-Men Light" and suffered for it (and other reasons, like not getting the character of Logan...
Been reading lots of good reviews on this, but trying to avoid any with spoilers and I've been avoiding the recent trailers and clips. As for the violence, I've read many comments that it feels like they are pushing the PG-13 limits pretty hard. But I'll have to see for myself. James Mangold...

I think this looks really cool, and I'm really looking forward to it.
The domestic and international trailers are out

Well, to be fair, the continuity has been pretty shaky in the X-films once the prequel movies were made.
In X-Men, Xavier said he was 17 when he first met Eric. In First Class he's maybe 30. Also, Charles is surprised that Magneto has found some way to block his telepathy but in First Class...
