Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

I agree, Ron. Even with the addition of sales tax being charged, I will still be giving Amazon my business. The convenience of not spending time and gasoline driving to/from the store is still a big consideration for me -- plus, I've never been a person who enjoys going to the store to shop. I...

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

Thanks for the reminder, Robert. I just placed an order for some items that had been on my wish list in order to beat the October 1st switch over. I had been waiting for price drops, but much of those drops would be offset by the sales tax anyway. If the title was close to my target price, I...

Planning for Amazon Prime two day free shipping to the moon?

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

From the article: "The service, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, is available in parts of New York, though Amazon said it would expand to other cities next year. Amazon will charge $7.99 for delivery within an hour, though two-hour delivery is free, according to a statement." So, who...

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

Have we become such a "need it right now" society that this is necessary? Heck, I almost never need anything I buy at Amazon that quickly, and am just happy I do not have to make a trip to the store to get the item.

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

I agree. For me, buying online is as much about not having to drive someplace to purchase an item as it is saving money, so paying a premium for delivery and still needing to drive to a pickup point would be pointless. If I have to get in my car anyway, I may as well just drive to the store.

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

This service costs more in shipping, though -- a plate of cookies and a glass of milk.

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

I'd probably pay for the extra service once -- just because it would be cool to see the device dropping off a package at my house. :) Otherwise, the delivery time offered by Prime is more than fast enough for me 99% of the time.

Very cool video, Mike. Maybe Amazon could start a pizza delivery service with the devices, too. :P

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

I wish Amazon used USPS for all my Prime shipments. Instead, sometimes I get packages from a private delivery service called Prestige. Twice over the span of about a month, packages through this delivery service never arrived. Amazon was great about sending replacements overnight, and I told...

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

My Amazon customer service experiences have been similar to Johnny's -- they have always been very positive. Even though I rarely shop there, I've had multiple bad experiences at Best Buy. So, if Best Buy just matches Amazon's pricing, including sales tax, I still will be giving Amazon my...

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

I finally signed up for an Amazon Prime one month free trial just before Thanksgiving, giving it a pretty good workout with my holiday shopping. With the added benefit of the free streaming of movies and TV shows, it had enough value for me to keep the membership once the trial was over. The...

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

Why did you have to pay shipping? Amazon offers free shipping on orders of $25 or more. I buy enough stuff from them that I can almost always get my orders over the limit. I just maintain a wish list for those times when my order doesn't total $25, and add from the list to the order to get the...

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

I always pick the free shipping option from Amazon, so same day or next shipping doesn't matter to me. As long as they keep offering a free shipping option on orders of $25 or more, I will be happy. I rarely need what I am ordering immediately.

Amazon relents on Sales Tax, sets sights on Same Day Delivery instead

Even if/when Amazon starts colecting sales tax here, I will still shop with them. I shop there for the convenience and prices -- sales tax will not change that.
